Okay, here is the problem.

part 1: On Tuesday the SLK developed a small leak in the front of the engine bay creating a nice gentle plume of steam.
The car was recovered by mercedes through the mobilolife, to a dealer by 12pm tuesday. after a phone call issue which i shall describe later I find the car has had a new water pump fitted. during Friday afternoon it seems the new pump is not sealed correctly and is leaking as well. so its to be taken off and further invesitagtion to take place.

The car has done 1416 miles since it was born on 6th September. this problem occured at 8am on tuesday. the steam was obvious at the junction to the motorway, so i elected to not continue down the motorway and have them come out and look at it.

any advice?

Part 2. Rang mercedes to arrange recovery and breakdown stuff. got through to maastricht or wherever it is. within 15mins merc uk had contacted me to inform me that the techincian would be with me within 2 hours and he would contact me around 15mins before he would get to me. he was with me 1.5hrs later staring at the engine with a torch. he was unable to repair it so trailered it to the nearest dealer. he informed his control of this situation and merc uk rang me within 5 mins to tell me, altho i was next to him at the time he informed them. we then arranged the hire car they provide. we were at the dealer in 15mins and the fax with all detail had arrived. i was taken home by the recover man to await the hire car. by 3 i had got the hire car and everything was okay so far. (apart from a £55k car not working coz of a leak that is) I since recieved no information at all, so friday at 9am i rang the dealer to see where they were with it, had to leave a message so they would ring me back which i was assured they would do ASAP. at 1pm i rang them again, left a further message with the note that i had watied 4 hrs for it already.
at 3pm i emailed mercedes customer care and also rang the retailer i bought the car from, to get advice as to whether a 6 hour wait was accepatble, considering they had the vehicle since tuesday. i was assured this was not good customer service. at 3.37 i was contaced by the repair dealer to tell me " we are well on with your car, a new pump has been fitted and we are just putting it back toeghter. will be ready saturday but we want to further check the leak in the morning." i agreed to collect on sunday.

at 6pm they rang me to say the new pump had not stopped the leak and they were going to take it off and investigate further. they would be in touch on Monday, altho they did say they would sort out the issues with the hire car so i didnt have to worry and I can still drive about in it. (C Class C180 classic. and its not too bad).
Have emailed mercedes customer car as i dont think this is comfortable news. I was aprehensive of this dealer in the first place, but now more so.

however my point is. for 3 days i heard nothing. for 6 hours i waited for a return call and once i started taken actions things happened. but i now find that it isnt fixing the problem. altho i could bury my head in the sand, are my concerns about the fixing unreasonable, and is this really good customer serivce.

i may name and shame the dealer, but only when the repair has been completed and to give them chance to appease me. who said I am not fair?

comments greatly welcomed.

as an update. the dealer i got the car from have said the dealer that is repairing it isnt really filling me with confidence and they are willing to look over it once it has been done, just for my peace of mind.

I had also emailed Mercedes customer care with that idea as i no longer have much faith in the repair dealer.

still, they assure me they will contact me 2moro to let me know the score.

I sneaked round today and, to my suprise, the car was in the repair shop. so at least it was looking like it has been looked at.

I hope this isnt the start of a long and unhappy time with the SLK or Mercedes. I have only had 3 of them and the only trouble, till now, has been with the dealers. altho the latest one i pruchased from has got their act together and i havent had much cause for complaint!

Feel for you mate, I can only imaginge what it must feel like to have gone to a dealer, ordered an AMG, waited x months, picked it up, enjoyed it for a bit and then have to face the fact that it has broken down.

You would think by now MB would have got thier act togther but clearly... they have not.

I would look for some form of compensation to avoid any expensive returns later i.e. a discount on service etc if possible given that your £55k car after 14k has been returned with a faulty part.

I would keep biting them until they give the car back.

fixed, collected, sorted.....bring on part 2.
