Weird thing. Daughter has same laptop as me, dell inspiron 1564.
She was in the car earlier watching a dvd and claims that the trackpad "just stopped working".

I opened it up and it was at the users page, can't move cursor. After much to-do i managed to log into admin profile (using tab and cursors to switch the hi-lit user).
Laptop fine in admin profile ie trackpad works although it will not connect to the 'net and doesnt recognise our network to which it was connected when first purchased. Says no networks are available - I'm typing this off my machine which sees four networks, the two laptops are side by side.
Click switch user, it goes back to users login page with no trackpad again.
What the hell has she done???

Anyone got a clue?

TIA

Try doing a System Restore to a time before the DVD episode.

Hello

You can lock the trackpad by FN (Function ley) and and F key (F9) on mine.

It could be that when you logged in as admin the profile you have as that it lets it work so when you log out and back to her profile its still locked.

Same can be done with the network FN (Function key) and F8 (on mine) will turn the network (wireless on or off).

If she was watching a DVD she may have tried to increse the volume and accidently pressed these??

Worth a try.

Otherwise run some anti virus such as AVG but unlikley if ok as admin.
