After a bit of a mission today. Left Bristol this morning to drop the family at Doncaster. After which I travelled to Glasgow for an early meeting tomorrow.

Maybe I am being just a tad grumpy, but the first overhead sign in Scotland, did not say anything useful. Foe example Stop if tired, road clear to Glasgow. Instead a rather brusque "Observe Speed Limits".

Whatever happened to "Welcome to Scotland" or any kind of inviting message. On occasions I do think the UK as a whole is becoming far too 'formal'.

PS I did 'Observe' the speed limit. Not saying what I did after I 'Observed' it though

Ye were just being telt

Wait for the return journey and the sign "Abandon hope all ye that enter" :)

But it's not electronic!

That's because we care for the environment. Look at the scenery you then encountered :)

That's true. I did enjoy the scenery as I 'observed' the speed limit. A66 was no bad either...

I think the pic was a bit too small. Could not see it:D

More seriously, the static sign is just that a sign. The overheads are a message that has been sent. Why not send a Welcome to message on the first sign, when nothing more important is needed.

The speed notice is probably just a fair warning that the M74 is vigorously policed by unmarked cars .

I noticed the sign when I drove up the M74, but it must be said, thanks to the warnings from people on here, I was busier looking out for camera cars.

If you come up the A1 you are welcomed to Scotland by two speed cameras within about 2 miles of each other.

come up the A696 from Coldstream and the cameras which were (quiet rightly) in the villages protecting kids and a 30mph speed limit on the English side move to the national speed restriction spots making over taking more difficult once you get to Scotland.

I would say it was very welcome advice! Mind, the A74/M74 seems to have a lot of scamra vans on the English side of the border!
