Hi All,

I am new here and have some queries which I hope the kind forumers can help. What are all these oil spec:-

1. MB229.1, 229.3 etc

2. daimlerchrysler MS-6395L and MS-6395H

Where can I find all these information pertaining to the DC oil specs? How do I know which engine oil brands (e.g. Amsoil, Mobil1, Redline, Shell, etc.that are selling in the market comform to the above standard?

Hope someone can help me and provide some helpful links. Thks in advance. :)

oil specs

the oil can will specify on the label on the back whether it is approved to either to MB229.1 or MB229.3. The latter is higher quality as I understand it.

But you should check your car manual and only use the recommended specifications for your particular model.

Here is some info I gleaned from a US website a while ago (forget the address, sorry).

MB sheet 229.1 approved oils
for passenger cars with gas and diesel engines, minimum spec for latest (98+) engines, high detergent, dispersant spec suitable for normal drain intervals. Based on ACEA A2, A3, B2, B3. Note 229.1 oils are not recommended for MB's latest (2002+) 4 valve gas M271, M275, M285 and diesel OM646, OM647, OM648 engines.

MB sheet 229.3 approved oils
for passenger cars with gas and diesel engines with extended drain interval indicator FSS up to 20,000 km, or 40,000 km - 25,000 mi, min. 1.0% fuel saving compared to 229.1, based on ACEA A3 B3. For gas engine of the M100 series, gas engines of the M200 series and diesel engines of the OM600 series (not models with Euro 4 diesel particle filters).
