What does the Oil pressure gauge try to tell me?

Sorry I didn't make it clear,I mean, maybe the oil pressure sensor is defective and is sending false data to the gauge.
But I understand from you that older cars have no sensors, only pipe fed from oil gallery.
When I saw the gauge at 1 bar,I tried something,I turned the steering wheel to the lock and switched on the AC so as to make the engine switches off,but it didn't, the gauge went down the 1 bar (maybe 0.75 bar) and still the engine running and everything is the same.

It could well be that the 1 indicated is the norm for that engine at idle

If you go back to an earlier post in this thread I said that if the car had the older type of oils that used to sludge, then it is possible that this parcially blocked some of the oilways in the cam shaft, if this was the case and the blockage cleared its self then this could account for the change and lower readings.

If in doubt, then I plug in a normal pressure gauge in place of the sensor.

As everyone has said though there is no test at idle that is of much use

Concerning oil types, are there old oils and new oils?
I always put Titan oil (made by Fuchs and is recommended by the local dealer here) with viscosity 15W - 40 W.
What do you mean by old types?

Oil was not an important thing to many some years back, If the first owner of your car had used one of the older types of cheap mineral oil, the spec escapes me but I think that they were non detergent oils, not sure though as oil is not my line

Just wanted to close this thread properly,I have the problem fixed,it was the sender unit (switch),a near by workshop tried another used sender unit and the gauge read 3 bar as before :) ,so I bought a new one and problem fixed,it is installed on the right side of the engine, you have to wait for the engine to cool down before unscrew as it is near the exhaust manifold.
Part no. of the sender unit is : 0065429417
Thanks for all who gave their guesses and suggestions.
