What got you into the Mercedes Benz brand?

My dad had a w123 230TE when I was growing up....back when they were new. Had it for ten years and it left a seed in my mind. Always wanted a Mercedes ever since.

Needed to replace my 3-series Touring with something bigger. Despite years of BMW ownership the 5 didn't float my boat so I looked at Volvo V90, E-Class and Skoda Superb/VW Passat. E-class really impressed us both so we bought there and then.
Never really considered MB before - closest I came was years ago choosing between an E30 M3 and a 190E 2.3. Made the right choice though and wish I still had the E30 today.
I considered those when I was looking and settled for the E class

I bought my first Merc 4 months ago. I’ve always gone for BMW or Audi before now. Quite simply, it was the interior that sold it to me. I find the interiors on most German brands to be a bit dull and uninteresting, but the current generation of Merc interiors are a work of art. It’s definitely a nice place to be

I always fancied one, I think mainly because of the history/heritage. I’m an Alfa nut as well - not sure what it is but I just love the association with history.

The quality engineering aspect also drew me in, though saying that it’s actually cost me far more than I bargained for with things needed doing. I do still love my S212 though, as a tool for what I use it for it’s superb.

Recent main dealer issues cause us to look elsewhere. Future BMW owner possibly???

To be honest I have never had a good experience with any main dealer, regardless of marque! (Apart from Ducati). Specialist Indy all the time for me now. I never buy new however so easier to avoid main dealers.

In my experience, it’s more down to the individual dealership themselves. Even if it’s a main dealer, they’re usually a different franchise depending on where in the country you are.
I used to own an Audi A5 and frequently went to the Plymouth main dealership, and could not fault them. I once used the main dealers in Bristol and they were absolutely useless and a complete pain in the ****.

If you are happy with your Mercedes, don't let your experience with one pants, Main Dealer,
put you off another Merc, how do you know, your choice of BMW dealer isn't going to be rubbish, as said before a lot of dealers are all over you, when buying, but not necessarily, when you need them after, but there are some cracking Main Dealers out there too. :) 👍

I test drove a Mercedes and loved the way it drove, the engine was superb, the interior felt nice.
Then I owned it. Worst built, least reliable, lowest residual holding car I’ve ever owned. First and probably last Mercedes unfortunately.

A BMW 320 d. Awful car so I thought there has to be a better way of moving around. And there is. Current E estate is brilliant for annual migration to southern Spain, but maybe not this year.

Lucky enough to work for the captive Finance house in the 90s so had C and E classes as my company cars. Moved on and forgot about them until I found an almost end of life SLK-230 in 2013 as a Funday car. Replaced that with a mint W208 CLK ragtop (sold it doh). Had an e220d ragtop as my daily for a year, but then heard about the -32 for sale. Since then I briefly owned a 54’ plate SL350 and will be back in the market looking for a younger SL (or maybe e class 350).

Back in Nov.2017, I went with my brother to look at some cars as he was interested in changing. It was an independant dealership, and they had quite a selection of various makes and models. After touring the site and examining several different cars, I kept coming back to a C class that I liked ( bearing in mind I had no previous MB ownership or indeed any other MB experience) He was not so keen though , until I said, if you don't buy it, I will. And he did!!! But I was piqued and after driving it several times, liked it a lot, and a few mths later, January 2018, I bought my first Merc... a 2010 E class 200 Automatic. I bought my 2nd MB, an 2014 E class 220 Automatic a few mths ago, and no regrets,

Years ago & I mean years ago when my business was doing well, thought to myself lets look at Mercedes after having a few BMW/Audi's. This was in the day's when MB was for the "elite", my nearest dealership was quite small, only a couple of high end cars in the showroom. Anyway in I went, the solitary salesman was basically doing nothing & I was totally ignored. Someone came in who was obviously an existing owner & he was all over him like a rash. F this so left & bought a BMW. Fast forward a few years, I was driving into Sainsbury's car park & saw this car, beautiful lines, low bonnet, fabulous, so drove over to it to see what it was. The first CLS & they were just out. The dealership had changed by then, so drove straight up. Very welcoming, totally different from the old boy's club & ordered my first CLS. Had 2 of them not counting the one I wrote off by driving into a flooded road after 2 weeks with about 250 miles on it😭. Then I went into S class, fabulous.. Had 3 of them then decided to have a look at 6 series BMW Grand Coupe which I bought. Thought it would be like the S class but a lot sportier. Hated it as it was nether comfy nor sporty. Kept it for about a month, did 850 miles then sold it loosing a fortune. Back to Mercedes & now have an S63 AMG Coupe which is brilliant.

In 1970 when i was twenty three i was Personal Chauffeur to Jim Slater ( Slater Walker Sercurities ) Maybe some of you Oldies might remember him ?

Anyway one of the directors had a 300 SEL 6.3, the fastest saloon car in the world at the time. Now compared to the other directors cars it was the best car by far and twenty years later i owned one. In fact i have owned a 560 126 a 220 500L and my 221 500L, which i still have. I missed out on the 140,as i realy didn't like the Tank and bought a 740iL, a great car + I had a 202 C43 AMG a 215 55 Kompressor and the 216 63 Bi-turbo which is now sold.
Have loved owning MB's over the years and will be sad to see the S-Class go, eventually. With the Bentley being my last foray into the wonderful world of Automobiles :( If only i could drive the bloody thing in this crazy world we are living in

I needed a fun estate for dog duties. Having had numerous m3’s I didn’t want an suv, so either a amg or Audi rs.
Bought a c43 estate and really happy with it. Can’t see me going back to Bmw, but another amg estate.

I started out looking for a BMW 550i Estate but they don’t seem to have been sold in the UK after 2008 and I didn’t see any good examples of older ones. Then a great example of the Merc equivalent came up for sale so I bought it pronto and haven’t looked back.

I was working in Algeria in the early 70's. It was friday and we had to drive from Constantine to Algiers (Over 200 miles) in a crappy Russian version of a Fiat 124. We wanted to get to the British Coucil club for the friday night disco (alcohol, girls, what's not to like) so we were going Fiat style flat out. As it got dark lights started to catch us up quite quickly and as we rounded a hilly right hand bend this car swept past and then disappeared into the distance. It was a W114 Mercedes saloon and I resolved that I would end up owning a car like that. It took 10 years to get the first one a 190e and 21 Mercedes latter they still float my boat. I tried an Audi once and got severely punished financially so the love affair continues.

My best mate’s Dad was an exceptional engineer and always said that Mercedes were the finest cars on the road despite never owning one.

It was only a matter of time.

My father had one of the very first customer 350SL’s (107) delivered new in the UK, in August 1971. Signal Red, Black MB Tex, auto but no other extra’s. His business partner had a new 280SE 3.5 saloon at the same time. As a kid at the time I was bitten by the bug, never got over it.
