what is my wheel width?

Hi

I have staggered 17" wheels so therefore assume the rears are wider than the fronts... I am looking at buying one spare wheel so want to get the same as the front -- prefer this to the space saver -

Am looking at a 8.5" width - is this the same as the front or the back of the car..

8.5" is the rears

Can anyone say if OK to use 205R16 instead of 215R16's

I have used Costco wholesale for Michelin tyres for E280 1999 saloon, tyres are great but they recently told me I can fit cheaper 205R1655W tyres and it's OK according to the Michelin 'SLR'...anyone know what that means and if it is legitamate and legal to follow their advice.
