However, looking at the core range (c,e,s) I would say the worst car in my opinion (and sorry if I offend any owners) is the first CLK.

you got to be joking right??? maybe yours was a dog, but the 1999 CLK Convertable i had was superb

i would vote early (pre-facelift) A class personally because of the reasons already mentioned.

W140 looks a superb luxury vehicle.... I would have an old one of these over a newer mondeo worth similar money any day.....

...the one point that pains me most is that its not pillarless . . infact the rear windows don't even go down?!

Of course the 208 cabrio was pillarless and the rear windows retracted so he can't possibly have any complaints with it :)

The seatbelts were extended to the front occupants on the 124 and 140 coupes because the pillar was so far behind them that they couldn't reach, this is an oversight surely? The 124 coupes and cabs were simply a (slightly) different body slapped onto what is most commonly a taxi chassis, in case you've not noticed practically all cars share their underpinnings with at least one or two others ;)

Latest shape CLK, too girly and dare I say it Boring ?
You're saying that the latest shape CLK is the WORST MERCEDES EVER MADE because it looks girly and/or boring?

I don't think people are focusing properly on the question!

Criteria would be good idea, such as:
a) Overall Impact of model to Mercedes Image
b) Reliability impact on reputation
c) Visual impact
d) Build quality
e) Corrosion

My opinions are on looks (w140), Corrosion (w210,w211), Reliability (w168), Overall Impact (s211), Build quality (w163)

Doesn't matter if it was a lawnmower chassis , when they look and drive as well as they do .....

Some might say oversight , others might say a clever solution to a problem ... ;)

What about this one then as a qualifier?

G Classy?;)

G wagens are supurb esp the 55. They cant be the worst.
Don't you like them?

The S-Class that followed the W126 was the W140, between 1991 and 1998. It might not have pleased everyone, but it sure was not a bad car, quite the opposite. When I changed over from my W126 to a W140, S500, it was a big step forwards in terms of equipment, comfort, riding pleasure etc.

The W140 was quite a brilliant car and quoted more often than not as the best luxury car of its generation.

It did look a bit imposing, but the newest S-Class has picked up that theme again - more "chunky" and showing off its size than the W220.

Guido

They also put it on a "crash diet" in 1994 http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/Review.aspx?model=509 to try to make it look a bit slimmer but only helped disguise its large dimensions slightly.

I think there great cars and can equal landrover on off road caperbility and still be ultra reliable, durable and user friendly.

Didn't you see top gear when Hamster drove a silver 55?

I'd rather have an SLR any day mate.:D
So would I but that doesn't make the G-Class the worst mercedes ever made.

I also consider the G Class a success story!

I didnt include the SLR because I dont class it in the same light as other Merc's - its a supercar etc.

And, may I add - the rear of the SLR is awful :)

As you said earlier, it depends how you read the question.

I certainly would not say the G is the best either, as Killerhertz said. Each to their own, as I am not keen on 4 x 4s anyway, but that is a different arguement. It may have been a success in its "class", but is nowhere near wonderful as a mercedes image maker.

I think it can only do good for MB image as a show of engineering caperbility.

If we are including Super Cars (SLR) then surely the CLR-DTR wins as it can fly? :D :D :D
