Car
'06 B150SE, '99 E220 CDi, A160, Ferrari Mondial and a Smartee! Now Sold: G300 LWB (sadly missed)
Bought a V230 last week.. sadly didn't come with the Interior Owners Book.

On the dash, next to the heating control i have a button which says REST. It doesn't do anything when the car is on, but when the keys are taken out and I press the button.. i can hear the fan running.

Does anyone have any idea what this is for?

It's best used in the winter to circulate the warm air in the heating system round for a few minutes once the car has been stopped. Useful if you leave someone in the car and its freezing outside....

Cheers Mambo ... super quick reply! :D

Mine goes for 30 mins.
It's an electric water pump that keeps the water circulating while the fan runs.

Yep it should auto power off after 30 mins to protect the battery. It's meant to use the residual heat of the engine to keep the cabin warm if you leave the car for short periods. However, the windscreen & side windows can mist up as the air that is circulated is not run through the dehumidifier.

In the summer it will circulate cold air, which is useful to keep the cabin cool in the sun for 30 minutes.

I like the vehicle already.. and thats before knowing about this switch. How comes this "feature" isn't on other MB models?

it's on mine which isn't climate control as such.

I thought the REST button was on all models with either climate control or air conditioning.

Maybe it's only on the facelift models then? My car has three buttons in the middle of the a/c cluster:
Rear demister - top
EC - middle
Internal recirc/REST - bottom

I think there are 3 types of air conditioner, A/C, climate, and mine which is described in the options list as climatic..with the REST button 1998 w210 which i use in summer and winter as described

1..A/C which has a button you press and turn the dial to the blue section

2..Climate which has A/C button but has temperature settings 16.18.22..etc on the knob thingy, also digital display

3..Climatic where you leave the dials in the white section and it intelligently knows what the temperature is outside the car, and also if the suns shining which would raise the cabin temp it adjust itself to blow cool to cold , also for the reverse if its cold out side to blow warm to hot air depending on the outside temp. always left it in the white section never ajusted it and kept me comfy all the time....though you can over ride the system by moving the dials yourself

somone on here will know the correct ansaw if mine way out but thats how i beleave it is

I'm pretty sure mine is known as the standard air conditioner (there were only two options on the W202, A/C or Climate Control with digital display).

Mine operates as you describe in option 3. i.e. I leave my two thumb wheels in the white zone... On hot sunny days the air comes out icy cold. On sunny mornings or warm days the air comes out cool. On cool or cloudy days the air from the vents can get quite warm. I find it's great as I rarely have to mess around with the dials and seldom do they get spun into the red or blue zones.

..

thats right steve but on my spec sheet it has the word climatic,on my dads c180 it has climate and he has the numbers.....then its just A/C with the red and blue bit..........that's what is leading me to believe their are 3 separate systems although mine was made originally for the far east market it eventually was sold new in England idon't know if this is a reason for the climatic bit

I think MB call it automatic air conditioning.
