Hi
I have been using Mer polish before I bought my Merc and then went to Carnauba wax.

Some of the cars on the forum have a great shine what do the experts recommend.

Thanks
Norman

Autoglym products give a good result and are easy to use.

Polish and wax are 2 different things. Polishes tend to have slight abrasiveness and fillers and should be used before waxing.

Lots of people use AutoGlym Silicone Resin polish because its relatively cheap & easy to use. Wax is another story and prices range from £10->£7000 :) .

Go take a look at www.detailingworld.co.uk where the experts are.

Hi,
I always use Meguiars products, excellent results.

I got some off of Ebay which I had read a review about on one of those detailing sites.

It's called Jofs Classic and it is absolutely excellent. It brought my car up so shiny when my hubby did it the other day that I was quite taken aback! Would highly recommend it. Was only £8 too I think.

Autoglym super resin polish is pretty much the best to use by hand, follow this with extra gloss protection to seal all the oils and fillers in.

Clay the car first to remove and bonded contamination, its one of the best things you can do to prepare the surface:cool:

You can also put a good wax on top of the egp to warm up the finish:rock:

I got some collinite .... good stuff ...also like Meguiars products..

Firstly don't confuse polish and wax/LSP.

Polish removes paint/lacquer to give the smooth shiny finish, wax/LSP seals and protects the surface.

No product does both jobs well.

The best place to source proper polish from is a local body shop supplies outlet.
I have some trade polish and non cutting wax and they are excellent and relatively cheap.
3M products are also excellent but not cheap.

Autoglym super resin polish is spawn of the devil its leaves white residue and is full of fillers

Meguires stuff is leagues better and lasts far longer

Which product you use also depends on what colour your car is

Super resin is a fantastic product for use by hand, just be carefull not to get it on trim!
The fillers are there for a reason, it would take forever to remove all the fine scratches on a car by hand polishing.

Which meguiars products are you using fella?

And the colour of the product has nothing to do with the colour of your car, unless you are using colour magic, which is just not worth the effort.

I think maddog is referring to different formulations better suite for dark or light coloured cars, offered by some of the premium brands, eg Zymol.

Thanks all for taking the time to give me the advice, some good information there.

Norman
