I have root wood in my dashboard of 2005 W211, I don't like it, I prefer walnut, the real wood feeling.

Where did Merc get these root woods?

Are they by-product or very expensive?

A complete new wood rim set wont be cheap from MB however your best bet would be a second hand set.

no expert, but I believe root wood is used for decorative stuff because the pattern is swirly and more pronounced than straight wood. However it is not so stable as ordinary wood so not suitable for construction use.

It must be true I read it on the internet.......
