I dont know if it is for across the range but Im more interested in the B class. Do you know who makes their;

Suspension - shocks, springs
Brakes - pads, discs
Radio/CD - head units, speakers
etc...

I may be completely wrong but I read somewhere that Bilstein make the suspension units and I know that my speakers are Harmon Kardon, is the head unit HK as well?

I think most people will confirm, but every model has its parts built by different manufacturers. There are even occasions when the same model may have different parts fitted if Merc run low of stock etc....

Generally the biggest OE parts suppliers in the world, are the big names;
Bosch, Lemforder, Denso, TMD, Bilstein, ATE.......

Its True Bilstein make ALOT of OE suspension parts, including some of the Air Matic kits for Mercedes!

With each vehicle development programme approved Tier 1 suppliers will bid for the contract.

Mercedes-Benz have for a great many years had a policy of having multiple suppliers for as many components as possible : hence , for example , you can have Bosch or Hella lights , Continental , Michelin or other tyres and many , many more .

The new MB A and B class will be built in Hungary if that's of interest. Quite often major parts suppliers set up "parallel production" facilities in the locale of the MB factory. So its possible that your Hungarian built A class will have Hungarian Bilstein shockers rather than German Bilstein shockers . However its quite possible your German built E class may have Bilstein shockers from Hungary as well for "economic " reasons so its not a hard and fast rule - just an indicator.

Why dont we maintain a list of proper OEM parts?

ie what brand brake pads do MB use... etc etc.

That should be possible. Usually trade magazine publish lists of suppliers, but I hope there'd be a cheaper way of finding out this same information.

This is an example of what I meant

If you look in most MB engine bays, you'll see parts "Made in Hungary" and I can go back 15 yrs :)

Not knocking Hungary as such but there was a time that German Marques were actually built in Germany- somewhat old fashioned though this concept now seems to be. Mercedes themselves seem somewhat coy about mentioning the country of origin of their various models in their brochures tending to give potential buyers pictures of Gottlieb Daimler or a Gullwing 300SL stressing the GERMAN heritage of their marque.:dk:

My B200 needs a new front right shock. It is under warranty and soon to be replaced by the independent however they are trying to source the shock from somewhere other than MB. I am nervous that they will missmatch the front struts so want to make sure they are exactly the same make and model.

Im also needing to fit new discs and pads all around. MB quoted me something like £400 which seems ridiculous when you can get Brembos for half that. I would like to know what the MB ones are though so I can compare.

Its always good policy to change suspension components " symetrically" If you replace both front shocks with nearest equivalents from Bilstein I doubt you will go wrong- in fact you may end up with what Mercedes fitted originally - or better. You won't go wrong if you use ATE brake components. As has been said MB use ATE, Brembo, Zimmermann, Pagid, Textar and this can vary from production batch to batch. One week's production the B class will have PAGID components the next week Brembo

They wont be replacing both unfortunately so may need to pay for the other myself. Why is it so important to d both at the same time? They arent designed in pairs so why would it matter that much? At the moment I have one that has clearly worn and become faulty where the other is still fine and there isnt a problem with handling.

It goes to the balance of the car under extreme conditions---- heavy braking on a wet road- cornering on the limit in say an avoidance manoeuvre-- high speed stability on the motorway ---- not something you would necessarily notice on a daily commute.

Genuine front brake discs for your car from MB are £39.60 each, front pads are £49.46.

Genuine rear discs are £39.60 and pads are £50.40

So parts are £259, I assume the rest of the £400 was for fitting?

Looks like buying non genuine parts off ebay will save you around £10?

NB looks like you can get discs from euros for £25.80 for the front and £21 for the rear, and get 25% off that, although quite who Eicher or SBS are is a bit of a mystery (not OEM).

MB - like other manufacturers - purchase from International companies with manufacturing facilities all over the world.

The failed Diesel injectors, for example, were made by Delphi's injector factory in Blois, France, but similar injectors (though not the faulty batch) are also made in Delphi's injector factory in Sudbury, Suffolk.

But Delphi has manufacturing facilities all over the world - from India to Mexico - so when MB ordered OE parts from Delphi, there is no telling which factory they might come from.

They probably heard a loud bang and instinctively threw their hands in the air, dropping a load of injectors ;)
