just bought a 2004 c 180 avantgarde se it has the basic sound system ie cd radio was want to upgrade to something like a kenwood double din what would be best and does it need a new facia to fit

What are you trying to achieve, i.e
DAB ?
iPod?
Bluetooth?
Navigation?

You'll need a fascia adapter, and if your car is a facelift one (look at the stereo, is it the full width of the centre console, or does the wood/metal trim go around it. (former = facelift) then you'll need some adapters from Quadlock (power/speakers) and Fakra (antenna).

Are you anywhere near comand.co.uk in Lightwater ?

Cheers

Richard

I've just come on to ask the same thing. I fitted a parrot yesterday and so had the dash to pieces and realised it'd be possible to get a 2 din unit in there. I've seen there's a few you tube vids showing how to do the mod, am I right in saying these units are all fairly standard I.e fittings etc? So I could follow the online vid even if I have a different make/Model of unit?

I'm also interested to know people's thoughts on which unit? I like pioneer and was looking at this: pioneer avh x4500bt
Does anyone have this? Or recommend any others?
Thanks

hi richard iam in scotland iam looking for a system with bluetooth nav and i pod connection that can be controlled from steering wheel buttons

I fitted the double din Pioneer AVH-X2500BT to my S203 as I was advised away from the new Kenwood models by my local ICE shop (too many returns apparently).
I did not go for the nav but it has everything I wanted.
You need the fascia plate, ipod lead (if needed) and a connector to allow steering wheel control. It took me a couple of hours to fit and I am very happy with the unit.
Sounds really good with the standard speakers too.
If you would like any pics then just let me know.

Here are some pictures of the unit in my car.
Mobile phone camera, so the quality isn't the best.

If any more are needed just let me know.
Ideally I would like to get it flush to the fascia but will need to remove it to see if it can be done and it looks okay to me at present so that will be a slow time project.

I am trying to do. Something similar on my CLK, but it has a fibre optic lead to the amp ( I think)... Did you find a similar problem?.... If so; please help guide thru this nightmare... Looks good by the way

Sorry! I did not have the Bose system fitted so cannot help in that regard.
I seem to remember reading on the internet somewhere about fitting an aftermarket unit to the Bose system. Will look back through my surfing history and will let you know if I find it again.

My unit also has a optic lead connected but I'm not sure what to? I was under the impression that connection is for a cd multichanger but now I'm not sure as my car doesn't have one? Anyone have any info regarding the optical lead?
Also any updates with any double din unit mods? Would be good to hear some success storys!
