Hi Everyone

I am a relatively new user to this site and i know this question may have been discussed in the past before but i would like to ask if anyone can give me a good recommendation for tyre brand & sizes for my C55 AMG.

To cut a long story short i have just returned from taking my car to have 1 front tyre replaced & i have been advised to replace all 4 tyres!

Currently the car is running Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's with 225/40 18's on the front & 245/35 18's on the rear. I believe that it is possible to go larger on the rear & think that this would be a good idea but what size? & is there any problems with going larger than OEM? (rubber etc?) + tyre brand recommendations would be a massive help.. Any other C55's owners opinion or experience would be really appreciated.

I'd like for someone with a C55/W203 to confirm, but I suspect 255/35/18 might be a better fit for for the rears.

I've been very impressed with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on my '55 - a bit more expensive but excellent in use and good wear life compared to most others.

In fact all the cars I've had with Michelins have had very impressive tyre life and good road manners.

Thanks Will, I have read that the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's are a good choice however, they seem to come in 2 options - either normal or run flats?? anyone else.....?

After Conti's, Bridgestones and Goodyears, I've settled on Falken ZE912's.
Half the price of all the big names, but no noticable difference in tyre performance.

expencive tyres makes me laugth never bothered with them really other than on my sierra cosworth which runs toyo r888s but then that dose have 526bhp and 502 lb ft my c36 amg has the cheapst tyres money can buy on it there harder so last longer and at the end of the day im not dirveing round a race track lol so give no difference to the way the car drives on the road!

Good luck in the wet .

Falken 452's on mine.

Thanks for the comments so far, I'm thinking of keeping the front tyres standard - 225/40/18’s but going slightly wider at the rear - 255/35/18’s. Can anyone tell me if this would create any problems what so ever going from the standard 245/35/18 tyre to what I propose?

Pleased for you mate , the cheapies i had on my old 230ce ( that didn't have enough power to pull your sock off ) were terrible , lasted for 20000 miles but let go at every opportunity.

Still , taught me car control  i expect yours have done the same.

There may be insurance implications for moving away from standard - they may consider it a modification and a reason to walk, in the event of a claim.

On mine Conti's are MO (Mercedes Original (I think) and that's good enough for me.

i guess i have better throttle control lol dont get me wrong if i provoke it , it will go out but then thats half the fun lol but driven normally its fine and no real difference to when it had p zeros on it at the end of the day rwd and the wet dont go well togther full stop!

lol how are they going to veiw tyre choice as a mod thats like saying it came with normal shell fuel in it when it was new dont put super in it or it will affect your insurance lol

Thanks, but I'm not concerned insurance issues & I don't think it will be a problem as I'm keeping the standard AMG original 18" wheels. What I really wanted to know is whether moving up to a 255/35 tyre would cause any problems with rubbing or total tyre circumference. The guy in the tyre shop this morning said I might have go to a 255/30 (i.e. with a lower sidewall profile if I wanted to keep things the same) but I would rather keep a 35 profile. Can anyone tell me what would be correct & best?

Er, no it's nothing like your Shell example Andy

In the eyes of insurance companies, anything that deviates from the manufacturer's original specification needs to be declared - that's why they ask at renewal time. Oversize tyres MAY be viewed as a mod.
The answer would be to ask the insurers because the consequences are significant - it's a phone call.

the problem u have is the 255 are 5mm wider iver side than the 245s so they may catch the wheel arch or rub inside the wheel arch he may have sudgested going down a size in profile to move the wider tyre away from the wheel arch but this wont help if the do catch on the inside of the tyre! u will just have to fit them and see what happens or just stick with the 245s

But fuel with a higher octaine rateing could be seen as a mod lol but wouldent same as the tyres wouldent

Hi, 255/35s is about your limit you could go with 265 but it will rub or unless you are willing to have your rear arches rolled. I have 255/35s Rosso's (great tyre)and they really grip. Hope that helps

Thanks Tudu, so can i assume that 255/35's will be fine to fit on my standard AMG rear 18" wheels & cause no rubbing etc? If so then i'll definately just go from 245/35's to 255/35's on the rear & keep the front standard.
