Just looking on eBay at some really nice E500 and E55's out there but none of them have anything on the switch next to the passenger seat heater (W211's).

Out of interest, what option would this be used for?

Actually, I've just had a thought.
My Dad's 211 has the electrically operated rear blind option and I *think* the switch is in that location.
Mystery over!!
Sorry to have wasted your time guys!! :o

Ever seen those films where there is a BIG RED BUTTON that says DONT PUSH:devil:

Yes, I don't have it on my E but the manual explains it would be the rear window blind button. Close to the big red button which reads...

Thanks for confirming.
Incidentally, how useful it that feature? I can't see that is serves much purpose really.

I assume you mean the rear window blind, not the red button? :) Rear window blind is standard on the V221. It is useful for privacy, when you want it, from those driving behind you. At summer it reduces heat from sun shine.

There is one on the Ali G movie when he asks the PM to see it and jokes around by almost pressing it.

Thats my favourite 'Big Red Button' moment :D

The red button relates to Men In Black....remember what happens when the button is pressed

Nice feature actually V useful in the evenings and in the summer.... Both my CLK's have had them and they are good. :bannana:

Can you drive with the blind down?
I would have thought not as you can't see behind you, making the RVM redundant.

The blind actually has thouands of tiny little holes so it's not one solid piece and you can see through it.
Plus it actually comes up from the parcel shelf as apposed to down from the roof lining.

It does not completely block visibility backwards. You still get a good enough idea what is happening behind you (if interested). I have the blind up just about always (on the W221).

Rear window is not even mandatory, there are cars (vans, trucks) that do not have any rear window or rear view mirror. Door mirrors are sufficient.

This would be the same mesh that I have on the SL that acts as a wind screen, I often leave it up, for when its down it obscures the rear parking display
