What would you do.....

Was the seller a dealer? Is not the offer of compensation a form of admission of guilt? Has it been happening to lots of his cars and does he view getting caught out once in a while an occupational hazard?

I don't understand why people are happy with this outcome? (Other than £1500 in the pocket, which to be fair smooths over the immediate problem for the OP). There is still a known clocker out there being allowed to carry on

Or have I missed something?

As much as I may take the amount offered, it doesn't mean to say that Trading Standards won't take it further.........:D
 
Whilst that may be the opinion of many I doubt it is so easy to prove.

You're quite right, nothing in the letter admits to the clocking just that he wishes to reimburse me for the difference.....

Glad you got a result on this, I was responsible for developing The National Mileage Register back in 1998/9 it does offer an investigation service for the trade but for consumers it's just mileage data. The HPI guarantee still avoids the subject of mileage so nothing has changed in all the years since I left.
