What's missing from my engine?

Can anyone help?

I took the front engine cover off my W208 CLK-55 AMG today (to get at the air filter) and found an empty bracket. It looks like somethings missing! This bracket is at the top of the engine. Either side of the gap is an electrical plug that is unconnected.

Does anyone know what belongs here?

Don't worry about it.
It's something to do with the American market.
My E55 is the same;)

phew. i thought it was a supercharger there or one bank of a V8.
then remembered this has not got one

Wow, that's a relief. What does the US market get here that we don't?

If the bracket was the other way it could be a cup holder for a superize 40oz for when the mechanics work on your car (in America...)

I thought supercharger at first but thought surely you would know...

probably some ballast to counterbalance the excess weight in the passenger compartment as their cars are filled with a lot of non optional extras that we have to pay for here

Now this sounds daft,,, I took the top off mine (V8) and I have the same bracket with something in it and I could not decide on what it was,,, I will find out

I think it may be a mounting for an electric air pump, just a hunch but sure I've seen some info on it

I think it is something to do with air pollution control. Isn't there a pump of something that fits in there?

Its an air pump.

It is used to reduce emmissions at certain times mostly at idle. It feeds air into the inlet manifold.

Most don't have them in this country but some do.

The C32's suffer with them failing.

Tell me about it... but that one i had go wrong turned out to be a blocked pipe... still had already paid for the new pump
