We're selling my wifes 124 (now she's keeping the green estate):)

I'd like an opinion on what its worth as I've seen ones without history and big holes in the seats going for well over a grand on Flea-bay also where to advertise it so I dont get inundated with idiots, are Autotrader and flea-bay any good

The details are,
E300D Multivalve 94
144k with comprehensive history
Imperial Red
Alloys but no aircon
been looked after no expense spared (Ian at 124 works thinks it well cared for)

Also is it worth paying to get some rusty scabs done first do you think or is it best just as is

cheers
Phil

I've sold two w124s in the last 18 months using ebay classified ads. No real hassle, cheap, and I got what I wanted for both. As for what a good multivalve diesel saloon is worth, I would guess (only a guess, mind) at £1500-£2000. Estates are easier to value. Imperial Red might put some buyers off. You'd get an easier sale if you got it de-scabbed. I bought my latest W124 from a forum classified, that may be another way to go.

To obtain the best price, you need to aim your adverts at the right buyers, ie MB Fans who understand the product. With this in mind, I would suggest Mercedes Enthusiast and The Gazette.

Its also worth putting together a good advert, some nice pics and then sticking it on e-bay.

Get the scabs sorted out...a mobile paint guy should be able to sort them out quickly and achieve a good finish especially as its a solid paint colour, and he should be able to do it for a reasonable price.

LOL I just had to say that on first read of your threads title I thought you had said what's my wife worth! I was just about to ask you what you wanted for her!! lol

I didn't know about the e-bay classifieds, i might give them ago, thanks

A straight swap for someone who'd buy and sell their own cars would be tempting:D

i reckon a good advert on ebay and you should be seeing around £1600 to £2000 easily, maybe more. make sure you say it will run on SVO!

worth getting the bodywork sorted (if any issues) to gain a very good price. and make sure everything works.

As I posted this on a US board today, I may as well do so here too:

I kept a spreadsheet of the asking prices in the small ads of the UK MB Club's Gazette over many months recently. The W124 picture is:

* Saloons from £895 to £6000; average £2664.

* TDs/TEs £1450 to £6500; average £3902.

* Cabs £8995 to £18500; average £13,324.

* Coupés £2400 to £10,000, with an AMG Sportline listed at £20,000; average £4782 with the AMG excluded.

* One E500 was listed at £11,250. I see them at specialist dealers from ukp8000 to £20,000+.

There are specialist dealers scattered around the country who will pitch asking prices at 25% and more beyond those listed above. The premium for low-mileage examples persists, in spite of what is known about the deleterious effects of lack of use:

Cheshire Classic Benz

I wonder at every insurance renewal about the value of my 1996 Sportline Coupé with 61k on the clock, and now reckon about £5000 for that purpose. The insurance is costing me £308 this year (UK readers: that's with RH Specialist Car Division).

I didn't get the paintwork done as the guy at the body shop said it wasn't bad enough and I'd be wasting my time, so its on e-bay as is

Good luck! :bannana:

It looks nice in the ad, and you have been honest in your description.

You deserve to get the best possible price for the car and I hope that you get an honest buyer.
