Here's an interesting article from the DM:
Today, diesel is a dirty word and many countries penalise drivers with extra congestion charges and vehicle duty. But could electric cars be the future for all? BJORN LOMBORG finds out.

Agreed.... it's a scam. The government trying to make us believe that we can simply swap our ICE cars with EVs and keep on buying cars and drive them to our heart's content. Not so.
As I keep saying
... EVs remove harmful exhaust emissions from city centres, which is great. And they also remove brake dust pollution. But they do not ease congestion, do not reduce road deaths, do not reduce tyre dust pollution, and do not help the planet due to the pollution involved in building them and shipping them halfway across the world - all the ICE car maladies of old are still very much with us in the EV age.
The obvious issue is that far too many people are employed directly in the automotive industry around the UK, to impact any change. From dealers, through traders, garages, parts manufacturers, car park operators, petrol stations (and now manufacturers of EV chargers), detailers, tyre fitters, and down to your local hand car wash. And, on top of that, there's the wider peripheral jobs in cleaning, security, catering, etc provided to businesses in the automotive industry.
It will taken another generation or two before any government can instigate a downturn in the automotive sector in the UK. The last time the government did something similar, when the coal mines were shut, didn't go down well with parts of the population and created pockets in the UK where voters will never vote for the party that was in power at the time.
So.... go out there and buy new EVs. Bad for the planet, yes... but our political system won't allow us to have less cars on our roads. Sad but true.
