Wheel Alignment Romford Essex and tyre wear. C Class 2016 amg premium line, I have tyre wear on the outside edge nearly down to markers on both front tyres, they are like new in the middle and inside edge, so the tyres pressure was only 34 when petrol flap says 36, it drives like its on glass so smooth, took it to a friends tyre shop, he said thats normal wear for the mercs, I never had it on my eE class, but anyway i still would feel happier getting it checked on a hunter machine as i don't want to buy new tyres if its wrong. Just had the mot with the tyres pointed out but no problems with anything. So now to the question Does anyone know a good tyre place near me, i have used Grays tryes Hunter machine before now with no problems but now when i drive passed the seem to need everyone on a job list on the window, which worries me. I do like to panic, also Elite on the A13 used to be good, so if anyone could recommend anyone ? And does this seem normal wear for a c class amg line? And lastly would low tyre pressure have caused this, thanks.

Stating it's "normal wear for Mercs" sounds like a cop out to me from someone who can't be bothered or doesn't know what they are doing - having the gear doesn't necessarily mean they know what they are doing.

I don't get that on my car so clearly it's not the case anyway.

I would expect underinflation to cause both inner and outer edge wear as opposed to just outer.

Too much toe-in can cause just outer edge tyre wear but one would hope they'd at least get that right.

I wouldn't expect worn out suspension components on a 2016 car unless you have done a massive mileage.

I'd take it somewhere they know what they are doing. If you get no recommendations - get yourself over to WIM in Chesham, Bucks. It's a bit of a trek for you but worth it to get the job done once and done properly.

Could give these a try. They have the hunter machine I pass here regularly and always see cars being attended to. I haven't had them do work on my car. I took my work van here as had a balancing problem which they sorted out nicely.

Just looked at DTG website, looks impressive, i have seen this shop in passing that way, has anyone used them for tracking, thanks for putting that up for me :thumb:

My thoughts entirely, my (friend) likes to sell you a tyre and not only inflates the tyre but the price as well, he dose not do tracking he will be quite happily selling me another couple of tyre every 6 months. Maybe he is trying to get rid of me but i can't take a hint.:wallbash:

UPDATE...
So i gave DTG (as nearer) a ring they picked the phone up and put it down, so not a good start i phoned back half an hour later to be told the Hunter machine is broken and phone back monday to book it in a 1 or 2 hr slot as on web site. 1 or 2hr, never known something like that, i'm off.
Pro tyre Maldon, i rang them very helpful on the phone, just pop in and they will check it with the Hunter machine. They are very polite, checked the car over very thoroughly, explained the print out, everything was spot on, they said it may be were i was running the tyres at a low pressure 34 when they should be 36/38. But everything with the car was fine, that also checked all the joints and reported all in great condition. I would recommend this company, they were a bit shocked that i had drove 30 minutes to get to them but i told them they was recommended by people on here which they were quite pleased about.
So thanks W1ghty for the advice, a great recommendation from you :thumb:

wheels in motion is where I take mine to, they seem to know the quirks that Mercedes have and have been spot on with all my cars in the past. They were a good 2 hours drive away but worth it.

Going by your experience I'm not sure I'll be using them for a wheel alignment check, hunter machine alignment.

Manners don't cost nothing, there loss they will have less custom for there poor front of house skills. When I phoned up and asked to look over my balancing problem, they come over very friendly and polite on the phone, and I was seen two hours after my phone call. They did insist on the hour slot as it was during covid. Maybe I got a more mannerly person the day I called them.

Out of curiosity did you have the hunter machine put on your car. If so, what was the cost?

Yes they used the hunter machine and checked everything very thoroughly, showed me the print out and explained everything, they were very polite and informative. They said there was no charge, as everything was very good and up to spec, but i gave the man a drink well worth it for someone you can trust. A great service there and i would go back.
I think the price to do alignment was about £35 but you can check there website for that and the more that needs doing if all 4 wheels needed doing may be more but i am only guessing, they are nice on the phone so don't be afraid to check. You just turn up no booking.

They do use Hunter machines , from memory they are £35 for front adjustment and a few quid more for rears (don’t quote me though) , but as already said if it’s within tolerance they don’t charge .
I also give them a drink if that’s the case

Ok sound, good to know. Like said above when I called the DTG crowd they were very helpful on the phone the day I called. I'll keep the company in mind you went to if in the future I am in need of such work. It doesn't cost nothing to be polite and helpful on the phone. Like you say it makes a person feel at ease with the service that little more.
