I always thought I was fussy about my car, inside and out, but recently my gear knob felt a bit sticky, so I gave my gear knob and steering wheel a good clean with Leather wipes, WOW couldn't believe it they was minging, I know they say there's more germs on a keyboard than a toilet seat, a gear knob and steering wheel can't be far behind, yuk! 😮

Yes it is worth giving it a good wipe now and then. Mine came out that colour when I did it some time ago. Often its due to when you have the MOT/serviced - oily mechanic hands.

Also makes me think of the Top Gear episode where they found seminal fluid, faeces, mucus...yuk!

I wondered where i left that

It's amazing how mucky leather can be even when it doesn't look too bad. I was watching Youtube videos about deep cleaning leather and often it can feel sticky when it's been cleaned due to not being fully cleaned.

This was from the leather in my CL when I got it. Probably never been deep cleaned in it's 12 year life and to the eye looked clean.

I avoid such soiling by donning a pair of these

Don't laugh

Not sure what the insides are like now but out of sight, out of mind...

I can't say I could bring myself to wear driving gloves, unless it was in a classic convertible but I find a wipe of the wheel when the interior gets a clean does the job.

Took me back ~50 years.
I have to admit I bought a pair for my Dad for his Westfield 7 but liked them so much I bought a pair for me, and my Wife! They are simply awesome to drive in, make a big difference to grip/feel when you get used to them.

IIRC, they used to run an advert in the motoring press with the strap line " All the best cars have Dents in them "

Neat strap line! They made the gloves for 007 in Spectre. But also Stirling Moss, Nelson and The Queen amongst others. It’s nice you can access that kind of heritage for relatively little outlay.

Not been for some years but the Dents factory shop guard to be very good.

My wife has a few pairs of Dents gloves so a while back we went to the factory shop. Worth a trip if you’re near Warminster.

It’s also much less expensive than going to the other leather goods factory shop half an hour down the road in Shepton Mallet.

I hope you are not serious......unless they are made of Nomex (or whatever the modem version is called) and you are on the track behind the wheel of a full house racer, you will only succeed in looking like a complete knob! Possible exception being that you are in period dress, in a classic on the way to the Revival!
It's not like it's difficult to clean a steering wheel once a month or so....and modern wheels have plenty of grip.....they are not Bakerlite now you know!

Im deadly serious - you should try them. I actually bought them for the Alfa before one of my Euro trips but they're so nice to drive in i use them in the Merc and occasionally the Abarth as well. The Alfa wheel is much skinnier than modern wheels and actually quite slippery especially as the car gets hot (The Abarth wheel is like a giant fat black pudding in comparison). To be honest though and perhaps more importantly these days i really don't care if i look like a knob! :)

I find my hands get a little sweaty while driving (and I don’t have a death grip on the wheel) but couldn’t handle the derision and scorn that would be heaped on me by family and other morotists. I’m quite sensitive. :D
