Hi All,

Can anyone tell me where I can find my heat shield?
When I reach 2000rpm as the car is moving there is an annoying sound under the bonnet which I'm lead to believe is a loose heat shield?...the only reason I know this is because my old CLK430 had the same problem.

I took my old CLK to MB in Beaconsfield and they said they could replace it (for a small fortune), take it off of tighten it up.
I told them to remove it as they said it doesn't really do much anyway. Why is it there in the first place then :confused: ???

I now have the same problem with my current CLK but I'm not too sure what a heat shield looks like?
Any chance someone could take a photo for me or describe what it looks like as I don't want to remove the wrong thing.

Thank you, David

heat shield as far as i know is between the cat and the floor of the car over the mid section of the exhaust
cat=catalytic converter

You'll have to excuse me guys, I know nothing about cars...will the alli plate be obvious?
Can I remove it or can it just be tightened up?

David

the plate is pretty obvious. you will need a ramp to work on it .removing it will bring heat into the floor of the car

Try and tighten it first , it is there to prevent heat soak from the CAT damaging the interior of the car after a hard run.

If it is pop riveted on, and a rivet has gone, replace it with a self tapping screw
