Hi All,

Am a newbie here! Hello to all you MB owners. I have not long been a MB Owner. I bought an X REG C180 SE 2litre Tansanite Blue Compressor three weeks ago... and shes lovely - I have never driven anything like it before!! :bannana:

Anyway - at the moment I have some standard 15" alloys on - I cant tell which ones they are - but anyway am thinking about upgrading to some 17 / 18" alloys - maybe AMG just to give her some ooomphf!! if you get me.. :)

What I would like to know is if anyone has any recommendations for what to get / or what not to get - and any places that can I purchase the alloys from?

I did read somewhere on this forum that 18" might be a bit to hard; i.e. comfort wise.? Is this true....

Hope you can help - and many thanks for your help in advance.

Regards

DD

The hardness comes from the height of the tyre sidewall, the lower the tyre profile the less compliant the tyre is over the road surface and therefore the less comfortable.

I borrowed a set of 17" AMG replica wheels a few weeks back with 225x17x45 tyres fitted - a freind of mine was having a box replaced on his car so we swapped wheels for week - the diference was remarkable. The car looked really cool  but guess what, the very reason I love driving my car was now lost - the comfort was gone  . Now I'm not the slimest bloke in the world, my belly was still wobbling hours after hitting a pot hole. ;)

So a week later I gave him his 17" wheels back, stuck my 15" alloys back on with 195x15x65 tyres and BINGO! - it's comfortable again.

So I figure that having my fillings shaken out distracts somewhat from having bling wheels. Just my thoughts, perhaps I'm getting old or summink.....

I upgraded from 15" steels 195/65/15 to 16" alloys 205/55/16 and found no loss of comfort, and a big improvement in appearance and handling.

thanks

Cheers guys for your helpful advice - much appreciated... maybe 16"s are the way forward then :)
