Which Air Filters are best for a C43 AMG

Well to be honest I think the fuel consumption has gone up quite dramatically, though I,m not sure whether this is just my right foot
I am still running the 43 ECU and exhaust, though this will be changed as soon as the pocket will allow, I will be getting a De-cat and a Renn-Tec Airbox and re-map, though I must get a rolling road power run done before I do this.
To 60 there is no real significant difference but from there on it becomes more and more apparent that theres a 55 engine under the bonnet.
If you were to ask me is it worth it? not sure, what swayed it for me was the fact that I got the 55 engine cheap with 80k on it, and the fact that I was having issues with my Torque Convertor, it also needed new engine gearbox mounts and loads of other little jobs as well, if I had the engine changed all those bits could be dealt with upon reassembly.
Though I,m always sceptical on the C43 Gearbox weakness issue as afterall it is only a variant on 722.6 box, and as I was getting the Torque Convertor reconned I thought I would get the gearbox re-built before it blew and self-destructed to such a degree that it could,nt be rebuilt.
At over 150k miles no faults were found other than a hairline crack in the Electro plate, which was replaced, and just general wear and tear for a 150k Gearbox.

How much will the de-cat, re-map and Renntech airbox costing. Is it the whole airbox, as i am under the impression that you use part of the old airbox, and was told about 1400 quid for this and a re-map

Mine has only done 83,000 miles and had a new MB gearbox and convertor 35,000 miles ago. So maybe go the tuning route for now :thumb:

Ok, what about the green cotton one's then. Is that what Olly uses on his C43 ??

When I sold the C43 to Olly it had Green Cotton Filters.

When I had the CL remapped I had ITG filters fitted, recommended by Angel.

Thanks for letting me know, as i was interested in fitting ITG filters as they seem to be way cheaper than all the others :thumb:

Im going to get itg filters fitted to my c32 £60 for a pair compared to £50 for bosch ones from ecp , seems good value .

I think it looks like the way to go mate :thumb: where did you get that price from ? Merlin motorsport want 100 quid for yours and 54 quid for mine :dk:

I thought that was the BMC filters.
I believe Ferrari road cars have BMC filters as OEM, how true that is i,m not sure, but I did read it on here somewhere.

Ferrari F1 cars use BMC, not sure about the road cars but it wouldn't surprise me.

I'm a big fan of them, basically similar to K&N but they sponsor F1 and are made in Italy, reason enough I think :)

I actually saw a photo of the BMC filter for the F1 Fezza some time back, it was a work of art, completely the same shape and size as the engine cover, amazing.

I know they do them for my CLK so will probably fit some when the standard jobs are dirty. I've run both K&N and BMC in cars before and never had problem with MAF oiling. Go for it....

What would you expect, an old Mini Metro filter with some gaps round the edges?

So do these ITG ones increase the inductino noise at all? They are by far the cheapest option!

going get them from angel tuning . Geting a discount as my cars geting remaped there next month .

Not really

I was just trying to convey that if they can make something that complex then a plain old flat panel filter shouldn't really be a problem..

A friend of mine has a pair of BMC on his 210 E55 and he rates them, deffo improved the noise and he hasnt had any issues with them.
Thing is if you do get whatever filter which is oiled, just dry the oil with a hairdryer before you fit them and you should be fine.

In my opinion they don't filter as well as the OEM ones but if you don't care then just go for the BMC:thumb:

Yes that is were i got mine, when Angel re mapped the CL. Mine where £ 60 as well. :thumb: :)

pair of K&N`s in mine, had stndard in the c36 because of all the MAF threads.

Do you get anymore induction sound since fitting the K&N's ?

Hi mate, for what its worth I run a K & N Panel Filter on wife's RX8 and you do get a bit more induction sound. It's difficult to say whether you get more power but I have seen articles in Japanese performance magazines were they have dyno'd before and after and the K & N does seem to give a few extra horses. IMO its better quality than the OEM paper filter aswell.

Which RS Turbo have you got, I used have a Escort Rs Turbo Series 2 - great Car!

I bet it lets loads more dirt in, so how is it better?

It would be interesting to see some stopwatch timings of before and after such a filter mod, especially as the filter is the LEAST restrictive part of the air intake system.

If you really can't bring yourself to use such a mundane item as a stopwatch, meter the MAF output.

You bet or you know? , cos what I know is that I have used these and other performance panel filters over the years and have never had any problems with Dirt getting in the engine.

But I would be interested if you have experience of this happening and I may stop using them as this sounds wrong.
