What oil do you guys use ??

Was thinking 5W 40 Mobil 1 or 5W 40 Valvoline Synpower fully synthetic :thumb:

As the Don, Mobil one 0/40

I know that was what was used when the car was new. But I think with 80,000 miles on the clock that 0W-40 is too thin

Not in the same league as you with your C43, but I still use Mobil 1 0/40w on my C240.

If your interested, Halfords are offering 20% off at the moment.

MB don,t change the spec of the oil as the engine mileage increases, my 43 engine had been run on this oil from new till 150,000 miles, the engine still ran quite and sweet, rocker covers removed and no visible wear marks on the camshafts at all.

All AMG engine should be run on 0W40 Mobil 1 regardless of mileage

Hi

This is the only oil you should use for your car

0/40 Mobil one fully synthetic

You don't think that is too thin Olly, even if the car is driven hard ?
I always use to use Mobil 1 on RS Turbos and Sierra Cosworths when it was 5W 40 but when Mobil brought out 0W 40 back in the day i found that the engines rattled so changed to Valvoline Synpower 5W 40 or Castrol RS

Always stuck Mobil 1 0W/40 in mine and changed it every 5-ish K miles. Specialists I've used all recommend it.

Surely 5W40 and 0W40 will have very virtually identical viscosities at operating temperature, so it shouldn't matter whether it was driven hard or not (?)

Mobil 1 0W40 meets MB 229.5 and will be fine :)

In reality, there's a great interest in oil threads, but if you stick to the manufacturer's spec and change it on time you'll be fine. Lubrication-based engine failure is extremely rare on any modern MB to be honest, even with the pretty long service intervals. There's a fair few high mileage M113s out there, including Andy's old C43 engine with over 150k and I've seen a couple of '55 AMGs with 200-300k on them - so at 80k yours is hardly breaking a sweat - tough engines, and not really stressed :thumb:

The ATF would be more of a concern to me to be if I'm honest :o

No it is not too thin.

The Cossie and RS lump are just a very different engine. I have been into fast Fords and know a little about them.

Merc engines just do not rattle if you use Mobil one.

Fair play mate :thumb:

I had a slight clatter from the timing chain area of my C43 when i bought it. Took the polybelt off of it and run it, still the same.

Changed the engine oil and filter with Valvoline Syn Power 5W40 and now it sound as good as new :thumb:

I would say Mobil 1 0W40 is too thin in my opinion

i have to say olly is right all amg's should use 0w40

its what i use and peace of mind

Well i have used Valvoline Syn Power in my RS Turbo track car for 12 years since the engine was built, and is still going strong :D

The RS engine is so so different to the V8. It is N/A for starters.
