Which Filter?

Not entirely sure, as they were fitted in the service before I got my car. So a conservative guess (i.e. on the high side) is around 20k miles. But it's been 4 years.
I inspected them last year and they weren't too bad, but I've put quite a lot of miles on in the last 12 months. MOT around New Year, so I'm starting to tick jobs off in preparation. I'll fit a new Merc fuel filter when the orange turbo/intake/charge air seal turns up with the cabin filter. The air filters can be easily changed without disturbing the batwing.
Looks like your charge pipe has the extra bit that sits over the fuel filter . If so, You'll be needing 2 new o rings on stand by . :-)

So, I've now got the Mahle LAO413 cabin filter (LAO314 is the wrong number, and I must have typed the numbers in the wrong order on my earlier post). It's come from Opie oils, so I'd expect it to be genuine.
I've compared with other photos of these online and they seem to look the same. But the quality of the filter isn't anywhere as high as the bunch of Hengst filters I've used on the Merc and our Tiguan that we sold a couple of months ago.

Pics below, but points of detraction are-
- poor/smudged printing of the product info down the side of the filter.
- the filter can delivered sandwiched between some sheets of cheap polystyrene, I assume for shipping protection (they were in a sealed inner bag with the filter, so I assume packaged like this from Mahle). The polystyrene was breaking up, so I had to thoroughly vac the filter before it can be fitted.
- there is a silicon type sealer along the bottom of the filter, bonding it to the plastic base. This is a mess and looks like it's been done by hand and in a rush, with some thin strings of overspill. It won't affect function.
- the thick, white coating on the inlet side of the filter is like clumped, dry tipex. I'm not entirely confident it will allow a lot of air through the filter.

I haven't fitted the filter yet. Maybe a job for tomorrow.
So all in all, I would avoid one of these LAO filters in future and it doesn't seem very high quality.

Wow, looks to be hand assembled by someone using a glue gun. Made in Germany, assembled in Saigon. ??

For the W212 E350 OM642 engine, oil filter number A6421800009, which I think is the same for the E320.
Following BlackC55's initial advice on the Mann or Bosch options:

Mann filter HU821x (this is the number also marked on the genuine Merc part, along with the Merc part number above) currently on Black Friday sale on Amazon for £7.80:

Bosch F 026 407 008 (often just called P 7008) is currently on Black Friday sale on Amazon for £6.70:

These seem insane prices, so it seems rude to not stock up.
@W1ghty you can provide some insight about how competitve this pricing is as I'm sure you have your finger on the pulse of this sort of thing
👍

I'll buy both types so I can satisfy my nerdiness, er, I mean enthusiast need to compare.

Edit: this is for oil filters

Don’t drag me into your “parts list” madness buddy , I’m only obsessed with oil changes ;)
