My recently purchased S211 has an iPod kit installed and the manual says it will work with:
iPod Generation 3
iPod Generation 4
iPod photo
iPod mini
iPod U2

But I don't know what any of these are.
From what I can tell the current models are Classic, Touch and Nano?
Will it work with a Nano as they are not too expensive?

Thanks for any info.

ipods are awful, well itunes is awful

be prepared to loose all of your music atleast twice a year, pay a fortune for stuff and have it possibly conflicting with other stuff

i just use a 8gb mini sd card in my nokia 6220

or get a sony walkman mp3 jobbie off ebay 8gb ones are about £60

So can I use any mp3 player in place of an iPod in my car?
i.e. is the connector plug on an iPod the same as on other mp3 players?

most new steroe's will have one or a combination of the following

usb port (will take any mp3 player)
3.5mm jack port (will take any mp3 player as you use a doube ended 3.5mm jack)
ipod only connection (only for ipods)

have i spelt steroe right ?

Think I'm gonna have to stick with buying an iPod as I want to be able to control it via my 'steroe' (comand and mf sw).

Just not sure which are actually compatible with my installed kit.

I've never had that problem. I have had 2 ipods and 2 iphones with no problems.

all of the ipods above will work, different generations older/newer models, just buy the latest which will be the ones being sold in the shops at the mo

I have had no problems with my iPod/iTunes - they work fine, apart from MP3s lack Bass* due to the poor bit rate, get them with a higher compression ratio or from a CD and its all good.

*Not an iPod problem as ACC is fine.

good to hear a few have had no ipod issues

i regularly hear people say that their entire collection has gone or their ipod died or so other disaster

That's why everyone should keep a back up of stuff they want to keep, just in case. It's easy enough to import a library back into iTunes.

Hmmmm not off am ipod it isnt, obviously there are ways to do it, but best method is to keep a back up on a pc or removable storage. Takes a while to figure out I tunes, but it is possible and works quite well to be fair.

Well as Ipod's are the most popular form of MP3 player out there, there are bound to be more reports of problems.

I have had (touches wood) no problems with my Ipod Touch 2nd Gen or my wife's Ipod Nano 4th Gen.

Itunes is an ok programme - but, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't it just a shell programme for organising one's music? If Itunes crashes - the tracks are still in your music folder, so all one needs do is reload Itunes and it will find the music.

I too would strongly recommend backing up onto a external HD or DVD (or both)..:D

i had a 4th gen and didnt like it much i now have a shuffel but is a bit basic

I have a touch and an Iphone and never had bother... yet!

80gb ipod classic with 2900 tracks (11gb and about 8.2 days worth), no problems with itunes etc and works fine with my ipod kit in W204. All backed up to 2 external HDD. Now where's some wood to touch

I had a nano 3rd gen, and took it on holiday to spain last week,..... and drowned it in a beach bag when my gf's water bottle exploded everywhere. Guess im going to have to go with the SD card route untill my mobile contract runs out and i can get a nice shiney 16GB Iphone.

Get an ipod video 5th generation. You can shop on ebay and expect to pay £85 to £100 for a 60gb. You will never need cds again. I run it on command with an aftermarked Ipod connect and is controlled fine from both the command and steering wheel controls.

Never had trouble with my iphone yet!
