Am used to lexus v8's which if looked after are pretty much bullet proof, but as yet have no experience of Mercedes V8's ie the 430, I know the 320 is a v6 but curious of your experience

Ps it'll be in an ML

Can't help with the V6, but I had the 4.3 V8 in my C43 and the only problem I had was a crank position sensor go, apparently not unknown on the M113 engines.

Apart from that, no problems. The engine will work harder pulling around an ML but it should still have enough poke that it won't be very stressed. Probably going to eat the juice though..

Cheers,

Gaz

Not really worried about the economy aspect as itll be more of a back up car to my daily driver and to carry the fishing gear in style lol

Hi the v8 petorl ml's are heavy & thirsty(you wil be lucky to average 20mpg),have you not considered a diesel ml as the performancempg ratio make more sense, don't know your budget but the v8 420cdi is a peach!

My dads just bought an ML430 , to go with his CLK430 and my CLK430 :D

It's a peach of an engine.

ML seems well mated to the V8 , but economy is ridiculous , but if you aren't doing many miles , who cares ?

Lots of power ( the ML will be getting used to pull boats in and out of the river , so will be a daily workhorse ) , nice and comfy , what's not to like

My current daily driver is about 19mpg average that too is a 4.3 v8 probably be better than the ml on a run tho, as a trip to brixham averaged 30mpg

I average approx 29/30 mpg on a run in the CLK , i wouldn't imagine that the ML would be that good as it has the aerodynamic properties of a filing cabinet.

Seems a good old bus though.

Think the 420 cdi will be outside my budget

If your not overly bothered about performance then the v6 diesels are good in the ml & would be about 30/40% better on fuel....

Only V8 more juicy better he he
Never had problems with
On last S500 I did avarage nearly 25mpg
My Dodge Ram does 20mpg in the town only which for a 3 tonne truck is pretty good

I also have a lexus 430 V8, and I get pretty much the same as I got from an ML500.

430ml isn't much worse on fuel than the 320 in real world driving...

You only live once.

I've run both a 320 and a 430 ML and there is next to no difference in fuel consumption as the 430 doesn't have to work as hard.

Both are essentially the same engine design, albeit the 430 has two extra cylinders. Both bullet proof and the 430 in a ML makes it a very refined car to drive and the benefit is that you can pick petrol ML's up for next to nothing

Good work ! :thumb:
