I'm about to change the plugs on my car (see signature).
I have a set of new "Bosch H7 DC 0" plugs for my ex 123 230TE.
Are these much different to Champion SY9C/CC &/or Bosch F 8 KTCR as recommended in my manuals (3511 & 3253).
I guess the actual question is: "Can I use the H7 plugs in my 124" ?

If not, which are the better ones to suit my car ?

thanks for reading

PS: How deep are the access holes to the plugs on this model ?

From the numbers on your w123 plugs I think they are the wrong heat range for a e220. I doubt if you will find a Bosch F 8KTCR in a hurry. I think threy may have been replaced by a newer model?? NGK recommend either BCP6E or BCP6ES and they are a good plug. If you want Bosch try your local Bosch agent or MB dealer. I think ECP do BERU? You will need a good plug socket and short extension because the plugs are in quite deep. they are a taper thread seal so dont overtighten them
27Nm or 20lbf ft torque

thanks grober,
I'm not after a specific brand of plug,,,, but the best item (depending on costs) for the car - today.

I only mentioned Bosch / Champion as they are mentioned in the manuals.
Like other things - things have moved on apace since my old girl was built.

I prefer to work on 'word of mouth' by people who are passionate about their vehicles - as opposed to shop keepers etc.

I'll look into the ones that you mention so far.

(looks like the H7's will be on e-bay type sites soon,,,, along with a couple of other 123 series bits !)

thanks again

Talking of changes - i'm also after a reasonable synthetic 5w-40 oil then i'll need to know if a standard filter is o.k ?

Ive always used Beru Plugs.... the best quality for W12X cars IMO...

I now use Shell Helix 10/40 in my cars and torque the plugs to 10ft lbs. Use Copper Slip on the plug threads before fitting, it makes them easier to remove later. The gaps are usually set at 0.8mm but always check new plug gaps before fitting.
