Hi has anyone had this issue? Mine comes and goes but also changes with acceleration. Is it the fan? If I turn off the climate control the noise goes away so I presume it's the blower fan?

My '04 W203 C200cdi has started doing exactly the same thing. It's a quiet whine which rises in pitch with engine revs up to about 2000 rpm then sort of disappears. It stops when the climate control is turned off. It seems to be coming from the passenger footwell area, but that could be misleading.

At a guess I'd say either A/C compressor clutch, or maybe low refrigerant. A/C expansion valves can do strange things with low pressure. I don't think it's the fan because it carries on for a couple of seconds after the fan stops, then it cuts out suddenly.

If it's low on pressure, the clutch will not normally engage at all. Compressor clutch bearing is common issue.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

I had my A/C regassed today and it cured a couple of faults; the whistling noise and blowing cold only from the passenger side :)

It had 200g of refrigerant, it should have 750g.

I'm a fan of climate control, but I try not to whine too much!
