Who services their own car? (W212 E350 CDI here)

Standard service items on the 07 C220 W203 such as oil / filters / front discs & pads, that's now on about 190K.
The 12 C350 W204 , just the discs and pads so far but it might be time now to do the rest myself..

Do you ever get over the bridge from Cardiff ??

I DIY the wife's car (2004) and also did the W210 when I had it but not the Audi. After a decent discount off their fixed price servicing, it's not worth it. Plus I get a new car to play around with for the day.

I have done both the engine mounte + gearbox mount on my driveway. Took some persuasion to get the driver side engine mount out but it got in the end.
Gearbox mount is very easy to do.

I have used these and place the jacks stand on the correspondent chassis supports points for extra safety.

It's a long shot, but has anybody used these ramps on a W212 with sport suspension? I'm just about to order them and just want to check that they're not too 'high' for the W212...

They are only 8 inches high , can’t see them not working , if necessary I just put a piece of wood in front to lengthen the incline

Sooooo...... I'm sure someone explained this to me at one point but I've forgotten... where's the cheapest place to get OEM oil (20L), oil filter, fuel filter, coolant (for a flush)... etc? Forum discount at one of the MB dealers?

MB on eBay for the oil I paid £68 for 20L of 229.51

Oil filter and fuel filter buy MANN from any supplier. Your car should have the fuel filter with reusable sensor (double check) so it should be cheaper (around £25 for a MANN one) I got mine from Amazon.

Coolant change is only due at 15 years.

In terms of ramps, I've been considering getting some that have a supplementary hydraulic jack at the top.

I think the E350 is due for a coolant change at 15 years or 150k miles. According to ESS, if I took it to MB, they would offer me the 'option' of doing a coolant flush (which obviously you'd do!)

Pretty good prices.

Only one I can mention is that the identical fuel filter is £22.95 on amazon with free prime next day delivery. 👍 (MANN) even the OE one is stamped MANN as you can see in the image.

All I would say is that unless you already know the MB part no. for the fuel filter, double-check the vin with the dealer when you order as there are several fuel filters for the OM642, some quite a bit more expensive than others. Likewise air filters (although I can't see them on your list), there are two types. FYI only in case not already aware; if you are, as you were ;)

The prices shown are good.

Thank you, I'll swap that out now!

Thanks - the air filters are due on this service, but I already changed the air filters a while back - it's best to just stick with OEM for those.

I think the difference in fuel filters is just if there is an included sensor, I believe. I will be removing my old one so just need the actual filter itself!

Alright ladies and gentlemen, I have cancelled my MB Service Plan and ordered everything that is required for this service for my car:
  • 20L MB Oil
  • MB Oil Filter
  • Mann Fuel Filter
  • MB Coolant
  • De-ionised water to mix with coolant
  • Orange turbo seal
  • Orange 'oval' air intake seals (one of mine is torn)
I changed the air filters less than a year ago because they were in a state, so that doesn't need doing (although is due in this service). They are still looking new. The brake fluid flush is due next year.

And relevant tools that I didn't have (that I usually borrow off my brother but he's moving away so I better have myself)
  • Wheel Ramps
  • A sturdy Torque Wrench
  • 16L Oil/coolant drain pan
  • Funnels
  • Oil Filter Wrench 84mm X 14 Flute (for OM642 engine)

I also bought new control arms, a ball joint splitter and some low profile wheel nut sockets to try to stop scratching my wheels when I remove them to do the control arms.

And finally, I bought a Brita filter/jug so I can enjoy a nice cup of tea/coffee while working in the freezing cold...

Cheers!

Ed

Interesting thread, thanks. For those who DIY, do you have a mechanical background or is it feasible for *anyone* to do this competently?
