Why is introduction area so hard to find ?

You are not getting it are you? It is precisely to stop people JUST posting in the clasifieds to get free advertising. What is annoying about that?

You are not banned from posting on the Forum and contributing and as the minimum post count was decided upon by Forum Admin it is hardly arbitrary.
It could be argued , although I am not looking to argue anything , that even people who sign up JUST to advertise something , may actually benefit the membership if even one member wants whatever it is they're advertising .

I remember finding myself in exactly that situation some years ago when I advertised my W124 E250D in the classifieds on here , and another member ( Silversaloon ) suggested that I advertise the car on another forum set up by Veg Oil fuel / biodiesel enthusiasts that he was a member of as he thought there would be people on there keen on the car .

I did just that , explaining that it had been suggested I post the car there as it was the type of thing their membership might be interested in , and got a number of snippy replies before SS stepped in and said he'd directed me there ...

You just can't please everyone .

I eventually sold the car on here to another member .

Almost as annoying is having to pay eBay or AutoTrader to post your advert.

The sergeant would appear to be a buyer rather than a seller. I know ebay don't allow 'want' ads, can't recall seeing any on the AutoTrader site, do they do them?

I think that there's another issue here.

Forums work when a virtual community is being created.

If too many people post briefly and for a specific reason only (as helpful to others as that reason may be), then move-on, what you get is a transient community and there's a risk that the forum will have an alienating feel to it.

You really want a significant proportion of regulars and repeat posters, albeit with varying levels of time-commitment to the forum, in order to achieve the right atmosphere (or 'vibe', as my teenage kids would say).

We are so lucky to have DSM to police such matters.

I agree and its even harder to find on mobile devices. But once you see it its hard to miss

I also found it difficult to navigate and it seems sponsors of website somehow reduce option for diy problem sopving due to buissness loss ?

That's a ridiculous comment.

The forum is dedicated to helping DIY often with a lot of free advice from the sponsors

If that is how you feel ask for your membership fee back and close the door quietly!

Have to agree with the title of this thread. Looking to post an introduction and after 5 minutes am getting nowhere :-(
I think 30 posts before being able to use the classified is also a bit excessive and counter-productive. Just saying
Will try again for the introduction page.....

I and many others did not find it an issue and regarding the 30 posts (plus I believe also being a member for 30 days) it is a very sensible way to prevent the forum from being swamped with people using it a free site for selling whilst contributing nothing to the forum as a whole.

Case in point is the OP who got to 30 and has never been seen since this thread was created.

In just under 6 years you have posted 3 times, including this post. Not really helping the forum grow is it? :(

Said the member who was deleted for good reason.

Another "Classic" example of pathetic and petulant behaviour adding nothing to the Forum but pretty much the status quo for them.

If you can’t wait until you’ve made 30 posts before posting your classified advert for something you want to sell without fees, then don’t worry, I’m sure Admin will happily refund your membership fee if you ask nicely.

I think I’ve been here six years, and am only at 21 posts. Which is really low, considering how I normally use forums. Still it’s a good place to browse obviously.
