Hi everyone

i am looking at buying seconhand alloys for my w124 and want to make sure they fit before i hand over cash for them, had a problem with 15 inch Monoblocks before

i have looked at the link in this section which shows which sizes fit but the offset is not shown, does that indicate that they wont fit

i only have offset and size at the moment, no part numbers or width, but i have asked so will update once i get it

they are AMG MONOBLOCK, well they look like AMG MONOBLOCKS, and have AMG cast into faces of the alloys, they are offest 40 and haveing looked through ebay, they look similar to a pair of AERO 1's that are listed

oh and they have 235/60/16 tyres on

any ideas

We need to know the width as well as diameter. 40mm would be near enough with 7.5 inch rims. Profile of the tyres is way too high though.

That is a very strange tyre size for a 124. Really need more info. 16 inch AMG monoblocks are pretty unusual for a 124 though there are some that will fit. They were usually 15 or 17 inch.

thanks for replies, i have asked for the other info as i know this would assist you in assisting me,

the chap has sent pics to my email but i have no idea how to upload on this forum,

That is the tyre profile for the W140 s class, however AMGs for the W140 would be 18s and the regular wheels are 16, so I would imagine the seller has been using them on a car they weren't designed for.

What I can tell you, is the tyres will be far to big for any w124 application.

I have a spare set of 16s with that tyre width/profile for my w140 and tried them on my w124 and they wouldn't even fit in the wheel arches.

ok i got the size of the alloys

they are 7 1/2 16 e40 and as i said earlier the tyres are 235/60/16

the chap said they came off a 1996 S class, so that confirms what you said

can i put smaller tyres on them and would they then fit my w124

just to confirm, the seller is not stating that they will fit, he is only saying that they are 16"AMG's, i assumed that they prob came off an AMG hammer and therefore would fit

they seems really cheap and would solve my alloy wheels problem, i currently have 15" 15 hole that i think do nothing for my s124 so have been looking for a cheap alternative and spotted these.

please let me know if they will fit with smaller tyres as i dont want to mess the chap around

Thats the same 7.5 J 16 " E40 wheels size that has been on my car for the last 20 years, a 300CE-24 with sports chassis. Tyres fitted currently are 205/55/16, but I have also had 205/50/16 that run 2.49% smaller than the standard 205/50/15s.

Michael,I told you they'll fit but those tyres have to go

thats good to know, my car doesnt have the sports chassis, will it still be ok?

Just to let you know that 16" tyres normally cost twice as much as 15". They are even more expensive than 17"

Your standard 15" wheels were probably on 195/65/15s , right?
Well they would have been had they been on a 300CE without sports chassisi. I think E320 has the same rolling radius, but tyre width and diameter has gradually grown over the years, so somebody with a 320 might like to comment.

If you fit 205/55/16s you will have a slightly stretched tyre as some tyre manufacturers say the minimum tyre width for a 7.5J is 215 and not 205, but mine have not fallen off yet! The rolling radius of a 195/65/15 is 634mm and a 205/55/16 is 632mm, so your speedo will still be accurate within 0.41%.

If 215 width tyres will fit without rubbing then 215/55/16s are a popular size that is 2.05% smaller than stock, and the 215 fits the 7.5J correctly.

In general the wider the tyre the greater the cost, however popular sizes are usually cheaper with wider choice. If you adjust the profile by 5 you can often get a tyre of close enough fit that works out a lot cheaper due its popularity.

A good tyre size calculator can be found here: Tyre Calculator - Alloy Wheels - Specialist supplier of alloy wheels and tyres packages, Fast Delivery, Buy Online.

Did you have any brake caliper issues with this combination?

I'm looking at the MB wheel install guide for this size* and it claims that this wheel combination with 24V is not allowed. I can only guess it's related to brake calipers.

I ask because I have a set of these wheels that I plan to install on my own 300CE-24 (with eibach+bilsten setup).

Thanks!
