Window Button Replacement

Hi fella, I have bought the buttons, how easy are they to fit? Is there a method? I am very clumsy and doubt want to break them! Thanks
Well; I took the whole switch pack out!
You don't need to. They push fit with everything in situ. However.. if there is a little piece of the original switch still in there they won't push fit because it will stop it clicking into place (that's what happened to me) So if it clicks into place with a little bit of pressure you are fine. If not get a pick or something to see if you can pry any bits of the old switch out, you may not be able to see them. Once they are out it will just push in with a click.
They seem to be quite robust, I gave mine quite a bit of welly when I was trying to push it in on top of the old broken bits and it didn't break.

If you need to remove the switch pack because you can't get the old bits out then it just levers out, you don't need to remove the door card (assuming it is the same model as mine above)

Brilliant thanks, when they arrive I will be a lot more confident now!

Great advice, and if I can add, if you do use any sort of tool to remove, make sure it is PLASTIC. I initially used a metal screwdriver, it didn't have a happy ending LOL

Fitted mine yesterday. It just clicked on. I did put the tiniest smear of grease on each groove on the cover first. Someone before mentioned removing the broken bits of the old cover which is vital. Both mine dropped inside the switch trying to get them out but doesn't seem a problem. If the broken bits are left in place the new button will not click on.
There are 2 types of button for sale on Ebay, check photos carefully. One is an absolute perfect match, the other a cheap plastic badly sprayed silver that is nothing like the original.

Does anyone know if the FR cover is the same as the RR one. They appear identical to look at but there is no one on Ebay selling RR or RL or mentioning if they are the same. I don't see why they wouldn't be the same

The the driver window switch on my W205 has broken off as well. I ordered a replacement from Amazon, but it was poor quality. After fitting it looked awful and did not work in the same fashion as the others, lots of play in it. I phone local MB dealership and they said they do not sell individual buttons and the whole unit needs to be changed quoting £265 with labour or £129.60 just for the part without labour. My question is does anyone know if the Genuine Mercedes-Benz W205 C-Class LH FRONT Door Window Switch A20590515139051 can be used on the right hand side. I'm thinking of ordering the genuine part for the left door and then popping out the button and fixing it on the right hand door.

That is an outrageous price for the labour. The switch pack literally pulls out the electrics are unplugged, plugged into the new one and the whole thing is pushed back in place. It's a two minute job.
Your link doesn't work
Just get a whole pack of these
It's what I used and they match and work just like the originals

Outrageous, but not unexpected. When I first got my C class, I wanted the door speaker grill replaced. I had already obtained the genuine Mercedes part. The dealer in Belfast (Agnew) quoted me £120. Subsequently I got a Merc indie to do it for me at the vast sum of £20! (Yes, it needed the door card removed, and the new grill studs 'soldered' on, but a 10 minute job as I watched the guy doing it). Dealers are for rich folk who don't mind being fleeced!

Thanks ming666. That's what I thought about the price. Here is the ebay link I tried to post earlier. Was hoping to get OEM part so do you know if I can use the the LH FRONT Door Window Switch button on the RH door? Thanks for the tip on what you've used, will order them if I can't use the OEM part.

No, I don't know. Ask the seller maybe? That part looks odd. I don't remember the switches being separate pieces (aside from the switch covers) I thought the whole switch pack with all the buttons was one piece.

Thanks, the part is the passenger door switch. You are right the driver door switch is part no. A20590568118R73 and is the whole unit. The seller is a dealership mercedesbenzofnewcastle, I did phone them and they said they aren't sure if the button can be removed and fitted to the driver side door 🤔

Ah I suspect not then. You could take out the drivers switch pack and see if the switches are separate pieces like the one in the listing but I don't think they are.

The switches on the driver door are a single unit and not separate pieces. The idea would be to pry out just the silver button from the switch (see pic) and fit it to the driver side unit. Visually all the silver buttons look the same. I'm going to an indy auto electrical specialist tomorrow, will ask them and let you'll know how I got on before ordering anything.

Yes the covers are separate pieces but not the switches themselves. Couldn't tell you in they are the same on both sides. You could take yours out and have a look.

So the part on sale by the MB Dealer on eBay, as per its description, is the lh window switch part for the drivers door switch pack ie it controls the opening/closing of the passenger side window from the driver side window control pack. This part is noted on the epc for the full range of 205 cars, including the 220.
So if the switch colour is correct for your car interior (black) then you should be ok to remove the bust switch from your pack and replace with the one from eBay.

This switch is noted as left hand because in each pack the switches are handed, with one straight edge. In this case the switch has a rh straight edge so it is a lh button - have a look at the switch pack in your car to check this.

Has anyone actually taken the car into Mercedes for them to look at this. I have the same issue, and there seems to be quite a few reports on the broken buttons. So is this a quality issue which the manufacturer should resolve?

30 years of driving, and never had any issues with a button breaking off. This happened to two of mine, within a day or two of each other.

Could work - Mercedes have a reputation for being sympathetic and generous to their customers over their poor quality issues... 🤣

Yes, but they don’t like to tell the masses about quality issues. I had a C220 which the seat had started to rip and the alloys had bubbling around the nuts. I wasn’t told until after I’d gotten rid of the car, that they would of replaced the wheels and the seat, as it was a known issue. These were the reasons I got rid of it after 4 years. I’d only done 24,000 miles, and it still felt good to drive.

I think you missed the sarcasm in the comment! And it’s ‘have’ not ‘of’ if it helps.

I just assumed he was American - sarcasm usually just goes over their heads 😁
