Window doesnt know when to stop!

Just noticed a fault on my W140 - it looks like the drivers window doesnt
know when to 'STOP' when it goes up - i.e. it makes a terrible clicking sound
until you take your finger off the button!

The 'auto' mechanism on the switch (where you press it past the first detent) has also stopped working on that window. I know once the battery has been out, you need to reset this, and I did this last time the battery was out and its been fine - until now!

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Yes - I dont think you can reset it - as it just clicks (like grinding teeth), rather than the relay-like click you get when it actually resets!

If you hold your finger on it...it will click. Reset it and all should be fine.

If the teeth of the lifting mechanism are worn down then the window motors cogs have nothing to grip, so the motor keeps revolving until you take the power away. As the motor won’t meet with any resistance when it reaches the top of its travel then it won’t reset.

Would you say that the window motor keeps revolving as long as you have your finger on the power switch?

Then it’s most likely that the motors cogs aren’t meshing with the teeth of the lifting mechanism.
