Thinking of getting tints in the rear. Someone told me that I need to be careful as some tints (ie, those that use a metallic film) can interfere with satnav - can anyone confirm that COMAND works ok with aftermarket tints?

Also if anyone has any recommendations of firms that do tinting in East Midlands / Nottingham I'd be very grateful.

Cheers,
Jon.

Aftermarket tints are more barryboy than Mercedes Benz.
Think carefully before going down this route.
Only IMHO of course.

Aftermarket tints are fine if done properly, no different than speccing them from the factory with regards to image.
They also do a job and do it well, the keep prying eyes out at night, the keep the sun out of the kids eyes and the most important bit for me is how much heat they keep out, especially when you have a dog.

Comand will be fine as the aerial is in the roof, FM and TV aerial is in the glass though, but the tint will be behind that, unless the metallic makes a contact between the aerial and that causes problems??
Ask the tinter what they use.

For a proper professional job and 7 year gurantee I think it was, go here...

Personally I've had tints before, and I wouldn't ever get them again.

Why??

Once our little one is born , i'll be having the back end of the A class tinted.

Not pimped out limo black , but a nice smoke , to keep the sun off the baby.

Got no problem with the rear end being done on any car , its when the front windows are done too.

Just think they can make a car look tacky and if anything attract more attention as people think you have something to hide, nice stereo etc.

I always tint them all, but do it extremely lightly on the front.

I tend to do 15% tint on front windows, 50% on back windows and 70% on the rear screen.

This means there is no sudden van look but also means the police want give you a tug.

I have been stopped three times for various things and they have been fine with the tints on the front, it is hardly any more than factory tint, just slightly.

This was 25% front, which is a little too much, and 50 back and boot.

15% front is more than enough, keeps the glare from the sun out of your eyes but doesn't reduce visibility and more importantly means bikers and other drivers can still see your face, when you are sat at junctions etc. so they know you are looking at them and not going to pull out.

I was stopped in that car above and he was fine with the tints, just that 15% does as much at keeping the sun out and the car cool as 25% but with the benefits mentioned above.

I guess so.
I think it depends where you live as well, if I was still in Leicester I would probably not bother, in Norfolk it is very different.
Also, would never have put them on the M3, but with an estate seems you can get away with far more.

The above doesn't look that bad to be honest. I think it's because it's on a dark coloured car.

I had the lightest possible all round, ended up not liking the way they looked about a year later.

I think the problem was for me when I first got them done I thought I needed to get my monies worth and went to dark! Haha
But less is definitely more in the case of tiniting, and a very light smoke can look really nice and do a good job.

This was my wifes touring with an even lighter tint, looks darker cause it is not head on, but think it was around 30% rears and 10% front.

You guys do know this is a Mercedes forum, right?!?! :ban:

Just fooling! They look great! I want to do my wagon the same for the exact reasons as stated earlier-for the sake of our daughter who is 9 months. Dark on the back but with nothing on the front-but after seeing the light 10%-15% on the fronts I want them now! Good work!
