Firm has just updated their NT to Windows 2000. (Cant understand why they did not do XP, but that’s another story)

Two things that are really bugging me

Cant change the desktop picture, its a picture of the company logo with a pale blue background, drives me nuts looking at it! Have tried to change it in the settings with a nice pic of a W210 on 18" AMG's but you can only see this when you Ctrl,Alt,Dlt to log off

Also, the remember password option of explorer is greyed out, and I cant seem to access it. Real pain trying to remember all the logins for various sites

Any suggestions from all our Techie members (That wont get my account suspended!! :D )

Cheers,

We use 2000 at work and most of the settings functions in the control panel have been disabled by the IT helpdesk. The only way I could change the desktop picture from the company logo was to find a pic on the net I wanted to use, right click on it and click set as background.

it's the same for us. The disabled functionality is a real pain at times and actually stops me from doing my job. I have to rely on my home PC - but do our IT owners that be care

There are ways round it coz I see some desk top piccies around here but I don't know how they do it. can only assume they upload their pics to their own web-space and do is Ray suggests.

For us - if you get found out it's a serious misconduct offence so not worth it.

You dont work for a bank in the city do you? Sounds just like ours!

Why, I have to ask do the IT people think it's neccersary to impose their cr@py picture on us!! Is it a security risk if we use our own pics?

Even a nice soothing green screen would be better :(

Its probably a group policy thing.

However you may still have local admin rights on your PC. If so, you can change your group policy ;)

Start, Run, then type gpedit.msc

I think its hidden under administative templates

Won't work. The Group Policy will override it after a certain length of time. Best way to beat the system is to find out the name of the default bitmap they are using, delete it and then name the Merc picture file you want to that same name !

You boys at the bottom of the IT pecking order have to do as you are told :D

Your IT have locked down your ass for your own good :D :D

I take it that you are refering to this section....

1.In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2.Click the Content tab.
3.Under Personal information, click AutoComplete.
4.Select the check boxes for the AutoComplete options you want to use.

You must select the tick box for "User names and passwords on forms"

For me, the "Prompt me to save passwords" is greyed out unless the above box is ticked.

Another perfectly good mug of coffee wasted... LMFAO :D

Actually there is an easy way to see what your PC can and cant do...

Go Start, Search and search for *.exe in 'My computer'. Once the search is complete press Ctrl+A and then hit return. :D

Try this. Right click on your desktop, then select properties. Even if the option to change background is greyed out, you should be able to see the name of their background. Remember the name.
Click start>Search, look for that file, delete it and rename the picture file of your preference to the original file name. Voila.

Alternatively, find a piccy online, and right click and select set as background.
