Hi,

I run a piece of software that manages my clients and databases. I received the latest version on CD but when I installed it it wouldnt work because Windows installer had error 1619.

The company that supply it came on line and backed up my data and removed the software and installed the old version but now none of the versions (4 of them) will work because Windows installer wont update.

My IT people seem stumped and so am I:confused:

Any ideas??

Cheers Guys

Right, my machine already had Service pack two but I reinstalled it but it still doesnt work.

What is the EXACT message?

What version of Windows Installer do you have? - type "msiexec" at a command prompt.

I run windows update so I had version 3.I uninstalled it and tried with version 2 which also brought up Error1619. I then reinstalled version 3.

I have also reinstalled SP2 and load loaded fresh software setup files.

The error message says this patch packet could not be opened. Verify that the patch packet exists or that you have access to it.

I have also uninstalled the java runtime package and also tried setting up a new admin user and started from scratch to no avail:(

I doubt you have been able to re-install an earlier version od Windows Installer. Not a good plan if you managed it anyhow.

So the EXACT message?

which is error 1619

Does the package need access to a network resource? You'll get a 1619 error if the installation can't verify admin rights to all the resources. Check it isn't simply a permissions issue.

Hi,

I'm not on a network this software works standalone. Regarding permissions, I dont really understand what you mean.

For permissions read passwords

Depending on what you are installing you need to be the system administrator for the computer. A 1619 error from installer can often mean "I went to change the setting at this point but I didn't have the correct permission to do this so I can't continue". Normally on a standalone computer you have full administrator rights by default unless your computer is deliberatley configured to have different users with different levels of access.

With some software packages you MUST install them using the same user account you originally used to install. Sometimes you can get around this by forcing the PC to use its built in Administrator account (boot the computer into Safe Mode by hitting F8 when it starts up - and before you get the XP start up window - when Safe Mode launches you'll see a new account called Administrator which should have "access all areas". Try installing when you are logged in to this.

To be honest though if you are paying this company for support they should be sorting this out for you.
