running windows vista, ive dragged 3000 albums onto a hdd they all show correct but are not in alphabetical order, they have stayed in the order i dragged them, how do i put them in order.i hate vista but my laptop wont run on xp.

Right click in the folder where you copied the 3000 albums to and select "Sort By" then your preference. You can also do grouping or stacking from the corresponding menus.

thanks for reply but no sort by option

Don't you have to upgrade to the top end version at a cost of £xxx to get functionality like this?

thanks for reply but no sort by option

Works in my copy of Vista..(Home edition)

You have to right click in a blank area of the folder view, not over a file or folder.

If you are viewing them in explorer you should just be able to click on the column heading that you wish them to be sequenced on.
I.e. Name / Date modified etc...

It's the same as XP, right click on a blank area and chose how you want it to be sort by...done it many times tonight on an ill laptop that I'm fixing for someone.

finally got it to work ,it only does it if i set the view to list first, very odd.

Something like this

You should have something like this - might have to turn on some of the options in preferences:

You should *upgrade* your version of Vista to XP. :D

Wish I could! Had no end of wierd things happening since I got Vista on a new laptop - all very frustrating. Wish I had the option to upgrade to XP - at least things would work properly!

I have to say I have had no Vista problems to mention, although both the PC and Laptop are fairly high spec and released after Vista came out.

Never, Never, upgrade uughhh.

My new computer will have XP as Vista is still in it's infancy and wont talk to my old programmes "yet". Same problem some people had with early XP versions of course.

I had this problem a while back and XP is not available on new systems in the shops anymore, only on the www and pcworld business.

Comes to something when they take your options of OS away:rolleyes:

You could always partition your HD and install XP as well, but this is long winded and not for beginners.

I have two hard drives on order, I suppose I could use one for XP and one for Vista eh.

I have insisted on XP on a certain system and Microsoft have provided a route to do this.

You basically buy a vista system and re-install it with XP from an old copy you have laying around. You enter the same key as you used for the software the first time. It fails when you go to activate it. You ring microsoft and go through the re-registration which fails because its been registered before. You then get put through to a human (hurray). You explain that you are registering an XP system as a downgrade to a Vista install and they will then probably ask you for the Vista licence but maybe not. They will then give you a valid key for your XP system. Hey presto - new hardware, stable(ish) O/S. I lothe Vista compared to XP. Its horrible. Still I guess i'll get used to it!

Off topic somewhat - but if one thing makes me use Macs it's those wretched keys and product activation that Microsoft insist on using, not to mention the x number of versions of the Vista OS.

Saying its not available is not strictly true

xp on a laptop in pc world shop not buisness. Now I accept its a poor laptop, but PC world have informed me that Fujitsu laptops are now duel - you pick what you want when you first start it up.This was the buisness section, but I dont see whay they shouldnt in in the shop too.

Second place I looked

We've told our schools not to buy vista for at least a year.
