What do people use now for windscreen washer fluid?
Just had wipers replaced on my 6 month old GLA. 100% better so goodness knows what was originally fitted.
Dealer says use only Mercedes Summer/Winterfit solution as blades are ceramic coated.
Seems expensive but it’s also a case of waiting in Dealer Reception to buy it.
Any other options?

I'd be interested in knowing if there are alternatives to the MB washer fluid too.
It's very expensive but I'm not keen to use another brand if its going to gum up the nozzles and pipes.

I'm tempted by an offering from Tesco for 5lt of blue washer fluid, ready mixed for £4 50.

That's rather expensive water and diluted washer fluid.

^ That will do for me. Just wanted something that works , cheaper than MB washer fluid and won't clog up the system.

The problem I had today was waiting 25 mins in reception for someone to come out from the Spares Dept (fair enough if he’s dealing with another customer).
Are these blades really ceramic coated?
Is the Prestone solution safe for those?

I use Shell ready mix washer fluid, bought at the petrol station. I prefer not to add water, because I have no idea if the tap water in our area is soft or not, and I don't want deposits accumulating in the windscreen washer system. I worry too much.....? 🤔

I have no idea whether the blades are ceramic coated, but I do use Mercedes blades and screenwash, even in other brand cars.

It’s not cheap but it’s very good and I tend not to use that much over the course of the year so there’s not a huge saving to be had.

If it’s inconvenient to collect from the dealer, buy a case so you don't have to go back for more for a while or order online (dealers advertise on eBay).

I always ask for a bottle or two of Winterfit when buying parts at the counter, have never been refused atleast one. I add bottled water as live in Hampshire, lime scale water here..

I think we are guilty of overthinking things. Ok, types of oil, but screen washer fluid, really. Do you really think non Mercedes fluid will gum up the pipes. Do you go to Mercedes to blow up your tyres in case its different air. I buy 5 litres at a time, usually the colder weather type & don't dilute it. Never had a problem in the last few decades (if I said years you would figure out I was pretty old):(

Have used Tesco fluid for years never had a problem.
I think any premix fluid will be better than tap water, where I am it's full of lime.

Do the pre mixed fluids state that the water is from filtered sources?

We buy deionised water in multiple 20 litre containers for the steam iron as its cheap and one of these lasts a year plus 👍

I was always led to believe that it was only mixing screenwash brands that could potentially cause issues.
I used Halfords -20 concentrate for years with never a problem, but I do tend to drain the washer system when I get a new to me car and start again with my preferred brand. I also make sure the washer bottle is brimmed when the car goes in for service (although I've still been billed for screenwash in the past by some places )

I use ionised/distilled water along with a concentrated screen wash on the wife's car.
We also have very hard water in the Dorset area.

I've ordered the product in Post#4 and see how that works.

I’ve always used ready mixed MFG Screenwash available from our local Esso garage. £13 for two 5 Litre containers.
Used it for years in both Mercedes and Porsche.
Never had a problem with it. Only question it now because of Mercedes claim that blades are ceramic coated.
I do wonder about that though given the speed those blades travel and the extended use they have in bad weather conditions.
Think I’ll carry on with MFG.
Thanks for all the comments.IMG_3685.jpeg

In Leeds we have soft water - So that is never an issue here.

I never mix different types of washer additive.
Having bought second-hand MB cars in the past where the washers were full of algae, I suspect that this may have been part of the problem.

I always use:
TRIPLE QX Concentrated -15c Winter Screenwash (5 Litre) Product Code: 542771201
Bought from Euro Car Parts ........ £8.99 for 5 litrs
I dilute it in January and February 50% / 50% and have never had problems with freezing, even though my cars are never garaged.
From March to December I dilute it 25% screenwash / 75% water.
I never have to clean out the jets or the tubes.

I always fit Bosch Aerotwin Flat Wiper Blades.
I find them the best .... Smooth / No juddering / Best screen wipe / Last for ages.

Magic !!

I use VW screenwash mixed with bought deionised water bought from either ASDA or Morrisons cleans the screen well and never any problems.

This makes my wiper blades judder so much. I switched to MB screen wash and judder is gone. Previously, I used ASDA fluid with no judder issue. So I think something in this product causes it.
Have used it for several years without problem.

It is strange, I have never had juddering problem with other screen wash brands. First I thought my blades were bad but judder persisted with the new blades too. Then, I changed the washer fluid which solved it.
Which brand of wiper blades do you use? Genuine MB or aftermarket?
