Wipers wouldn't work.

Hi, I went to my car this morning and the wipers wouldn’t work. Not had a problem with them before.
I tried turning engine off and back on etc. and then leaving it on for a while but no luck. As I had topped up the washer bottle last night I opened the bonnet, everything looked fine so I closed it again.
Then the wipers worked… Is there a sensor on the bonnet that won’t allow the wipers to work if it’s not closed properly?
If there is, why don’t they mention this in the manual? When I opened the bonnet it released as normal and I didn’t have any ‘bonnet open’ warnings on the dash, so do I potentially have a sensor issue?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Paul.

Hi, Not sure about a bonnet sensor, but could well be as there is one on the front doors. Stops you or a passenger getting splashed.

The same thing happened to me - but as I tried to move the car, I got a "bonnet open" warning - I shut it properly, and then all was well.

Must be it then, thanks to you both.

I probably would have got the warning if I had moved the car.

Would you be prepared to reveal what year the car is?

Too new for me, other than a fuse blown OR perhaps the motor is running when switched on but the connection between the motor and mechanism has become loose or detached, under these circumstances the wiper blades would not be moving across the screen and you wouldn’t hear the wiper motor running from inside the car.

You would need to turn the wipers on …with engine off… and listen from outside the car for the whine of the wiper motor.

Just a possibility, this can happen if the wipers are turned on when the wiper blades are frozen to the windscreen, I know you checked for ice but worth a listen from outside the car, just in case.
