Wireless printing??

They need the driver and to look across the network for your machine and then printer.

Hmm. I installed the driver for the priner on all the computers, each computer "found" the named printer on mine but when I print it says no printers installed???? Now I'm lost.

Hi R2D2,

Silly question but I assume your laptop (ie the machine the printer is attached to ) is turned on. The networked machines will use yours as the print server so it has to be on.

Also, have you set the default printer on the other machine to print to that printer.

ie. laserjet on //network/R2D2 (assuming your network is called "network" and your machine is called "R2D2")

We've done exactly what Dieselman has suggested and it's been working for a number of years. The printer is physically connected to my computer then the two other desktops and one laptop all work wireless and all have access to the printer.

BUT...............

My computer has to be switched on:o :o As you can guess I've accidentally switched my computer off just as someone in another part of the house has pressed their Print button :o ;)

Regards
John

Not the case in our house, Any computer can print regardless of other laptops being on or off. I'm not very good at the technical side of it, I leave that to the men! Aslong as it works, I'm happy!

Not the case in our house, !
DIESELMAN (that's a shout in case he can't hear me :))

Hopefully he'll tell us in conventional, understandable English what's going on.:D

I think the only thing the printer is connected to is my computer. All the other computers send their requests through my one, which then tells the printer to do whatever is requested. Is it possible to connect the printer to the wireless router although that would not be an option in our very specific case.

P.S. I hope I didn't shout too loud :D

Regards
John

I have the new BT home hub and it certainly is possible to connect it to the USB port (assuming its a USB printer).

I have an HP Laser with JetDirect Network card plugged into the router (via cat 5 cable) and the USB Epson inkjet printer plugged into the USB port.

The router has a designated print server (which BT don't like telling you about) on port 192.168.1.253 so effectively you set up the printer normally then right click on it, select properties and then ports. Reconfigure the port setting to to the above ip address so you print to the port on the network and the printer picks it up.
