Won't be buying OEM pads again

I have decided since enjoying green stuff pads over the past year versus OEM ones not to buy the OEM's again. I have tested them on my C200K and the brake dust with OEM V Greenstuff leaves a lot to be desired. With the green stuff not only do i consider them to be a better pad, but the amount of brake dust since fitting them has greatly reduced so much so that my wheels tend to look cleaner for far longer meaning that they only require a gentle hose down once a week rather than full Meguiars brush and full scrub.

Since fitting the Black wheels (AMG III's) to my C55 (which has OEM pads), the brake dust problem is even worst. So at the next service i will be replacing the OEM pads with Red stuff.

Sorry, but because of the long-standing brake dust problem i think OEM pads are xxxx.

I agree. Greenstuff are the business for reduced dust and also have a higher coefficient of friction so give better stopping power. I've also found them to be kinder to the disks due to not containing metal fillers.

Fit hem all round though to balance up the braking otherwise the G-s wear out faster as they do more of the work due to the higher friction.

I'm waiting for Mrs Dm pads to wear out to replace with G-s at the OEM pads filth the wheels with really badly baked on dust in no time.

Thanks for the nice teccy details. Cant understand why MB don't use G-s as standard fitment. Down to crappy pads require changing more frequently = £££££'s. I would rather pay for quality.

so am i better fitting red or green to my SEC?

For cars above 200bhp recommend red stuff with ceramic formula. Great stopping power and defo less dust.

Be aware though that red take a lot more heating up so for general road use green is usually better as it gives full braking from cold.

hmm and mine doesnt get a lot of warming up before were out on the open A5! Think ill stick to green... like you DM im waiting until they need doing.. seems a waste otherwise!

Tis true, but i don't fancy driving my C55 on G-s, Peppernick has experience of these with his CLK 350. i have asked Olly to fit the reds as they are made for the heavier and faster car so should heat up far quicker. I would feel a lot more confident handling the V8 with red pads than the hesitancy i have with current OEM's don't like them at all.

Two pennyw'th on this..., or rather, a question... With different coefficients of friction does Brake Assist, and possibly ESP need to be tuned to the new brake pads, or are the systems sufficiently "closed loop" to take account of the changes without the need to be tweaked?
Just curious.

Don't think so. With my G-s just installed, bedded in as normal and have had no probs.

Fair enough, but you're seldom asking BAS to do anything (well, with my style of driving anyway;) ). Its only when you run into the herd of cows at the brow of a hill in a country lane that you'lll find out.

Thanks for the good info..will make sure i do the same and get greenstuff for my next pad change..the brakedust cleaning is annoying..

ive been using greenstuff pads on the c36 a few months now, and they are good, less brake fade and good stopping power, there is defo less dust and what there is hoses off easily!

red stuff ive heard eats discs, so im staying away from them, greens are very good though.

Reds are the correct recommendation from EBC for heavy and fast cars over 200bhp. If i don't like them can always switch back to G-s.

they are, but they do eat discs, so keep that in mind when changing to them!

Strangely enough I find the OEM pads perfectly ok. OK mine's only a weak 'n feeble 270 CDI but the car pulls up exceptionally well even from "motorway" speeds. I've never suffered brake fade and (as I think tudu will admit) I don't seem to suffer much with dust.

And yes I have seen the ESP light up and have invoked ABS on my occasional enthusiastic cross-country drives :)

It makes no difference because the BAS/ESP system simply works on wheel rotation, so still backs the brakes off when locking just the same.

I have quite a bit of experience with all of the EBC pads and discs from my trackdays
I use yellowstuff on my race car, 190 and Allisons road CRX and I've only overheated them once on track.

I find greenstuff wear far too quickly though the minimal brake dust is nice, yellowstuff are fine from cold and a nice compromise as the reds really need to be up to temperture to work properly.
Redstuff is a very good trackday compound but a lot less street friendly in my experience as they really do need some temperatue to be truely effective.

Thanks. I thought Yellows were only racetrack pads, and reds were for road use. Suppose it all depends on the driver and style of driving as to pad wear/ effectiveness etc. As such, got to be better than OEM.
