Would you buy aftermarket wheels?

Let’s be clear on this: no car manufacturer makes its own wheels.

They’re all made by someone else - a specialist Wheel manufacturer !

Top 10 aluminium alloy wheel manufacturers in the world

The big question is what’s the quality of the wheel make that you’re considering? Bearing in mind they’re going to be supporting two tonnes of motor, driving over rubbish surfaces at 70mph (Officer !!)

As for the comment that large diameter Mercedes Wheelsare constantly get damaged by road surfaces, so one might as well buy cheap copies ….. don’t think that stands up to any kind of careful thought, does it?

Thank you all for your advise on the wheels.

I’m still in two minds if I should change the wheels because I can’t get an answer from anywhere if the facelift AMG bumpers would fit on my car?
Does anyone have any idea if the genuine amg bumpers have different fixings to the body or why the adverts say the bumpers would not fit a genuine amg car?

I think it does...Clearly looking at the many threads on this very forum, Mercedes wheels are expensive for one reason.....because they are Mercedes wheels.......not because they are better quality....and certainly not because they are any stronger! So the chances of buying cheaper wheels that are at least a good quality and strong are pretty high. As said Mercedes dont make wheels....just like many other parts they say what they need and put it out to tender.
In my experience cheaper wheels are certainly no weaker than factory supplied ones.....but can be heavier for the same type of design and can be lacking in quality and durability of finish....especially the diamond cut and lacquered types.....but to be honest if you really want that type of wheel in the UK with our weather and salt than you probably deserve what's coming to you at some point!
Personally if I was going after market with wheels I would not be going for replica copies (or fakes as I prefer to call them) I would go with a different style with perhaps styling cues similar to the original....but not identical. That way you are not trying to say your wheels are something they are not.....and you open yourself up to thousand more designs. Just my two pence worth of course!
