Hi All,

is it possible to retrofit headlights/bulbs on a non xenon 2008 R class?

I have standard headlights and would like to fit xenons

Yes it's completely possible.

Assuming you already have self-levelling suspension and headlamp wash then you can buy the lamps and control units directly from the MB parts counter. If you don't have self-levelling suspension and headlamp wash then you'll have to retrofit those items too. MB may be reluctant to help you but they can sell you all the parts if you can find the VIN from a car with the options you want. I can help with part numbers if required.

Good luck with your mods!

As an aside, I do not wish to see any mention of H1/H7/H4-type aftermarket HID kits in this thread as it turns into a boring legal discussion.

speak to mbenznl.com, he should be able to price all the parts up and maybe also provide a fitting service (netherlands)

I don't know about self levelling suspension but it does has full Air Suspension - is that the same? Can't check up on headlamp washers as I've just had a call to say I can't pick it up until Tuesday as the service dept have damaged the drivers door electrics while repairing the door trim......

Any idea of cost?

MB do have official retro-fits for many models, so always worth asking your dealer. As xenon light units cost approx £1k each from MB, you can guess how much a retro-fit might cost!!

Actually, just checked and you may be lucky and the lights are only ~£700 each

the 'legit' path is going to be a few thousand pounds - i don't know on your personal circumstancesm, but for most I'd have thought that the retro-fit cost will be prohibitive.

Yes I must agree a "few thousand" is not worth it. While I accept that xenons are much better I can't see them being worth all that extra. I also see that they are now fitted as standard. It may have been worth a few hundred but no more....ah well....
