Acceleration better with pedal not fully depressed W124 200E

I'm guessing this is a linkage issue but would appreciate the reassurance... My 1990 W124 200E accelerates more rapidly with the pedal pressed to approx 3\4 maximum. Pressing the pedal fully down reduces the acceleration by a noticeable, but not massive degree. All is running well, good...

    1990 W124 200E, missing a gear, o/d, or fine?

Thanks all for the replies. I'm certain al is well having counted up the gears under hard and soft acceleration. There are definitely four present and correct, just a shame the fourth is not a little taller. That said, driving around at 55mph is fine with me, I averaged 40 to the gallon on a...

    1990 W124 200E, missing a gear, o/d, or fine?

They're one and the same, i.e. my W124 E200. Actually she's doing 3100rpm at 60mph - not quite as bad as I made out, but still seems to be begging for another cog...

    1990 W124 200E, missing a gear, o/d, or fine?

Hi folks, At 60mph my gal is doing around 3400rpm and would love another gear. I don't think there is another in the transmission but wanted to post in case I'm missing a trick? Many thanks. Cleggy.

Wiring multiple 12v sockets and inverter into W124

Sincere thanks for all your thoughts and time on this chaps. Here's what I've achieved so far... Removed the centre trim, ashtray and glovebox. Drilled and bolted a 4-way 12v block with 10A fuse into the glovebox, then ran the wire back to the cigarette lighter switched positive and ground...

Wiring multiple 12v sockets and inverter into W124

Finally getting round to this, going to mount the multi-block thing in the glovebox and wire it back to the cigarette lighter as recommended. I need to make an educated guess re the adaptor - it has a black wire and a black/white wire. Which would be positive??! It's not possible to see where...

Daft question... What colour is my W124

Thanks for the kind words James. That picture was taken last September and we've had a winter in Scotland since then! It's not bad to be honest, but I love messing with it and I'd like to catch things before they get worse...

Daft question... What colour is my W124

Sincere thanks chaps, it's Arctic White. Duly ordered some white primer, paint and lacquer and will tackle it over the next few weeks. If I can keep the rust at bay another year or two with a week's work here and there I'll be happy.

Daft question... What colour is my W124

It's bodywork time soon hence I'm ordering some kurust, filler, primer and paint. It's mainly the front arches though there are a couple of other spots here and there. My plan is to use a dremel to grind out the rust and get down to bare metal, kurust, prime and then paint, however I've no...

Stereo compatibility check please, W124 200E

OK, all sorted! Once I'd sussed brown was earth it was a simple, methodical job: Snipped the ISO blocks off the cable that came with the head unit and soldered the dimmer, 12v, ignition, aerial and earth. I crimped the speaker cables as I'll be replacing the speakers and cable next. To...

Struggling with a new stereo - help please

Very basic advice please, brakes squeaking, W124 200E

Thanks again all. I should clarify the "brakes are not my thing" thing. I'm confident with most things, including things I've not done before (e.g. brakes). Having watched a few videos on YouTube of folks doing theirs it seems well within my capabilities and toolset. I'm just wary of the...

Very basic advice please, brakes squeaking, W124 200E

Apologies, I guess this is primary school stuff but brakes are not really my thing. Braking at slow speeds, for example when manouevering, causes quite a squeal from my brakes. Can't tell which wheel, it may be one or all of them. How do I sort this out please, with common DIY tools if...

Stereo compatibility check please, W124 200E

Thanks indeed for that. I ordered the Alpine unit in the end, simply because it's the least bling looking. The features of all units are pretty similar, with phone, USB and android/iOS compatibility. For the wiring I've ordered a cheap ISO to bare wire block, which was about £3 from Amazon...

Wiring multiple 12v sockets and inverter into W124

Hi again! I use quite a lot of devices in my car and I'd love a wee project to wire in some more 12v sockets and an inverter (all of which I have purchased). The issue is me, I have no experience working on car wiring. Please could you suggest where I might locate a feed for my 12v...
