Urgent help needed please!
The gearbox on our automatic 2003 W211 E270 CDI seems to have died. When I put the car into drive (or reverse), the car drives for a feet or two, and then stops, as if it has popped back into neutral (although the gear lever is still in D (or R)). The engine revs...
I have an autobox i bought with an engine for a a veg oil project but it never fully materialised as projects often do.
The engine and box (from a 300D) were bought from Dronsfields with 71,000 on the clock.
The mot certificate for the car was shown to me to prove this as well as an email from...

Hi all,
This is my first post on the forum, so please be gentle with me :D
My question concerns the auto gearbox (4-speed) basically when the car's doing 70mph the rev counter reads 3000rpm  is this normal for this type of transmission?
Previous Auto's I've had all dropped the revs...
300TE - After driving around for about half an hour this morning, I stopped at the local shops and saw a trace of fine 'smoke' appear from the underside of the car at mid-section below the doors......bent down and discovered that it was from the traces of leaking oil which had blown onto the...
The 4 speed autobox on my recently aquired 83 saloon is not happy! Bought the vehicle with issues so working down the list. The box wouldn't change into 4th when first driven but when warmed up will slip into 4th but only when I push hard in 3rd up to around 35mph. Once in 4th and undre load (up...
Any bright ideas for dealing with the slender bolts fixing the autobox sump to the main housing? Torqued at a mere 8Nm, isn't it just ironic that they should be corroded, and my mechanic is very reluctant to force them beyond their obvious point of resistance.
Hi, My 2000 C280 W202 Tiptronic sometimes makes a very hard shift 2 to 1 but only when not fully warmed up. What seems to happen is that I'm in traffic and slowing down in 2nd with little or no throttle and then I want to increase speed again so I apply throttle and then there is a very slight...
I've had better evenings! Gave my 1998 C180 away to my brother in law a few weeks ago as I fancied a change. Got a call last night to say the autobox was making 'noises' and the gearchange was a bit jerky. I said no problem, probably just due a transmission fluid change. Drained the fluid and...

Hi Folks,
I'm new to the club and to merc ownership. I picked up a cheap 1996 C200T auto recently. It was idling a little rough with a slight misfire so I changed the plugs and it's running sweet now.
When it was idling rough and stopped in traffic, gearbox in D and foot on the brake, the...
The Hardknott and Wrynose passes in the Eskdale valley in Cumbria, Lovely area [ we have a few days there every couple of months ] but aint going over the Hardnott again in bad weather. Wheels spinning, tyres smoking, wife saying I told you we should have gone the long way round, we made it but...
The auto box has been fine until a recent 500 mile motorway day-trip after which it has become somewhat erratic when sometimes it shifts from 1st to 2nd with a delayed and a slight high rev motion .
This only happens when it has been driven a while and at random - not all the time...
Where could I find a detailed procedure for an 300TE autobox oil change? I have purchased the original MERC filter and sump gasket and am not sure whether the normal ATF or Dextron III is the correct oil - is the Halfords or ECP ATF good enough or does it have to be the MERC oil!?! :crazy...
As title really? Mine is feeling slightly sloppy and whist selecting P R N D, et al is fine, feels like there is a bit of slack in the shifter.
Thanks!
