serpentine

Because of the conversion I'm doing and that the pulleys are not standard to the engine, I'm having trouble deciding what the correct length of belt should be. Looking at this pic the belt is 2080mm and there is considerable tension on the spring before the fixing bolt can be gotten home...

I need to replace the noisy and knackered shock absorber strut and possibly and likely the idler but need to get the belt off first. Can anyone tell me the procedure to do this, ie firstly how do you remove the belt? Many thanks.

I am wanting to toss the A/C compressor as air con system is kaput! Can anyone tell me of a belt that will fit if compressor is removed? It's basically being used as a spacer @ moment & the extra weight could be better lost for my particular build, not to mention added space for IC pipe routing...
