£21,000 plastidipped CLS 55?

Yeah - I remember the colour on TVRs.

I thought they did it first actually so you learn something new.

Don't forget the 1998 Nissan Primera and 99 Micra!

The paint on my Chimaera is Amaranth Purple which is a two colour purple and blue mix but suits a bonkers TVR OK. Not sure these paints suit something like a CLS though.

That's an Austin Rover paint as well. As used on the Rover R8 and later R3 platforms of 200/400 models. Basically a purple base with with a blue fleck in the lacquer layer. They also had the black base with a purple / Blue fleck version called Anthracite. Not sure if TVR used that one though.

As with most things TVR, they were a parts bin company and very little was of their innovation.

It is indeed a Rover paint. As you mentioned much of a TVR is bits of other manufacturers stuff. I have a Cavalier key. Luckily not the MK1 rear light clusters that were upside down Fiesta items. I think the wing mirrors were Citroen BX. The engine is a great sounding thing though. Proper old school burbling Rover V8

If the mileage is genuine (I assume it is) and the condition as good as it implies in the ad, it’s worth good money. Maybe not £21k but solid money.

Trouble is I wouldn’t pay top end for an example of any car which is basically Plasti Dipped. As mentioned in the ad, it can be peeled off. I’d want to know that under the coating the OEM finish isn’t knackered. That said the standard paint colour is basically pale gold so not very appealing to me personally either.

I can imagine this car for sale for a fair while. It’s an acquired taste, the finish is very 2004 and it’s essentially modified. Narrows the marker somewhat!

The W219 CLS55 is such an ugly car that it really needs a chavvie paint job to liven it up a bit - doesn't it :doh:

So what do we think the right price for this is?

Assuming the paint job is good underneath and the plasti dip can be removed with no dramas:

+ 36K miles
+ Looks clean
+ Good MOT history
- Not a super high factory spec
- Possibly one of the worst and most undesirable colour combinations

I would think 15-16.5k is closer on the money?

15k tops for my money.

As above 13-15k max. Removing the plastidip is a bit of a pain. But of course the paint job is part of why the owner feels it commands a higher price. He just needs to find someone who agrees with him!

Well the colour is better than the original metallic hearing aid beige, and I think the wheel is ok, a bit of a slab of beige maybe, but I’m sure it could be easily swapped?

£ seems a bit strong for an 06 though. Sure it will find a home at some point (@£15k :))

My concern with this car is that you can't tell the condition of the original beige paintwork.

This is why I don't think it's a good idea to buy a wrapped car.

Obviously the WBAC value is low but sitting at 7k at mo.

We had a work Hilux until recently and the guy that had it asked if he could spray the chrome front grille in one of these plasticised Matt black paints.

OMG....took for 3-4 hours to get it off when we sold it....a real pain. The underneath was perfect but it didn't come off in one or big pieces. Just little bits at a time so took ages.

You could swap that wheel for a half-wood version and it would look far better, but I don't think it's a good idea to buy a car in Doom Beige, metallic or not, in the first place...

On the basis of the WBAC valuation being as (in)accurate as it was for my two E55Ks, it's worth somewhere between £10.5 and £12K.
