We received an email from head office today suggesting that the plug in grant will be pulled in the news two weeks.

''There are rumours that the government grant is possibly going to be pulled within the next 2 weeks for electric cars , apparently they think the money that they set aside will be gone by December and because a lot of manufacturers are into 2016 for electric cars they are going to close the grant application soon.

Although we don’t have build slots for certain models I have been told that as long as your claim is entered and validated on the system with the customer survey completed, then the grant will be allocated as long as the car is delivered within 9 months.
I just thought I better mention it in case any of you have forward orders that aren’t entered on the government system.''

So if you have one on order, or are looking to order, it needs to be quick! The claim for the grant needs to be entered ASAP

the sooner it is withdrawn the better, there is no good reason for a subsidy like this

I take it the fact there is no road tax or congestion charge bother too

And of course no good reason for vehicles emitting less Co2 paying less Road Fund licence as well?

Who is eligible for the grant in the first place , do lease company's get the grant ?

I think the manufacturers obtain it to enable them to reduce the retail price, and make hybrid cars more affordable.

I'm not a fan but surely it helps pay for research into alternative forms of energy. If the cars were £5k more expensive even fewer would be sold, and manufacture and development not feasible.

Whatever people think of electric cars, and the related politics etc, useful to be kept up to date , so thank you JBD.

I have a number of clients that are self employed and tax driven and so I am interested in any advice available in this area.

Now whether I think my multimillionaire clients should be entitled to it on their i8 is another matter .... ;)

Yes, it's available to lease bustiers

Meaning the lease price will go up ... There is nothing about the grant stopping completely on gov site or anywhere on net only that it's running out and there is plans to renew it but nothing will be known till after elections ( which have gone ) but no other reports I would have thought the gov site would have been updated

Oh my god...

:) isn't the iPhone spellchecker supposed to be "smart", learning from the vocabulary you normally use?...

Smart? Mines more Smut

Being a cyclist, you can imagine I just love the "Road Tax" or "Road Fund License" argument. As far as I'm aware, we all pay that through income tax etc. Vehicle Excise Duty, on the other hand, is emissions-based and plenty don't pay it.

I see the grant as being contrary in ideology to the Government's latest planned BIK tax emission thresholds, i.e. they will be hammering everyone in a couple of years - electric, hybrid and ICE. Seems they wanted to encourage sub-50g CO2 car usage so they could ramp up the tax. Nice one!

The question is ..do manufacturers really reduce prices by £5000 or is it a case of smoke and mirrors to extract more profit?? Will these cars suddenly increase by £5000? I somehow doubt it. Or if they do their market will die.

All IMHO of course.

Thank goodness I completed the grant application last week for my Renault Zoe!!! Great little car by the way!!
